I need reminders of what I believe and why. Maybe you do too.
In my Bible is a copy of The Apostles Creed which I move forward each time I get a new Bible. When I hear or sing Rich Mullins’ song, Creed, my soul swells with the reminders which flood my soul.
Why? For they are truth – His Truth. His unchanging and eternal truth.
The other day, a portion of Scripture brought the reminder once again.
“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;“ (1 Corinthians 15:3-6, NASB)
Paul puts in writing three truths for us to cling to:
- Christ died for our sins.
- Christ was indeed buried, placed in the tomb.
- He was raised from the dead on the third day.
Paul reminds us of those who had seen Christ after His resurrection. Eyewitnesses – there were about 500 believers who had seen Him after His resurrection. No delusion or false account there.
Why are these truths important for us to know and believe?
These are the truths which continue to bring hope to us. One day He will return, we will be resurrected to life and all will be made right – all because of Jesus and the hope He brings.
We need to not only know Whom we believe in, but also what we believe. Sometimes music helps us to deeply absorb these truths into our souls. It is how I feel each time I hear Creed by Rich Mullins, and We Believe by Steven Curtis Chapman.
Today if you are struggling in your faith, I offer you Paul’s words from Scripture and these two songs. Take time to read Paul’s words and hear the songs and may your heart be filled with a renewed faith and truth to cling onto.
“We believe we believe, You are God
We believe we believe, You are good You have conquered the grave, Taken our sin away We believe we believe every Word.”(We Believe by Steven Curtis Chapman)
As we cling to these truths,
they bring hope
and light to our souls.
Last week I shared on gratitude and the importance of saying. “Thank you.” Seems I wasn’t the only one thinking on this subject. I love when God has a theme going. In her post, “Why We Say Thank You” HERE, Jennifer shares that when we give thanks in our circumstances, not for our circumstances, our focus is lifted from our circumstances to the One who is able to undertake in every circumstance.
Come, sit a spell. Bring your coffee, your posts, and your thoughts. If you link up, kindly visit those who have drawn up a seat around you.
** I apologize as I inadvertently closed this linkup way earlier, and have not been able to figure out if it can be edited. If you would like, just leave a link to your blog post in the comments and let’s continue to read and share the posts.

It’s good to go back to the basics sometimes and make sure we’re grounded in the truth. I recently watched a documentary about good, sincere people caught up in false teaching. I was reminded again how important it is to know sound doctrine so we’re not led away from truth by something that seems close to it.
Thank you for featuring my post “Why we say Thank You,” Joanne 😊
It’s amazing how truth through music can refresh our soul…isn’t it?
Blessings sweet friend, Jennifer
To have been one of those 500 – how exciting! God’s truth spurs me onward, makes me get up, not give up! Thank you for the encouraging mid-week reminder!
I love how songs can be great reminders of our faith in God. Thank you for pointing us to the One who never lets go of us.
Joanne, your post today echoes my morning Bible study. Truth sets us free! Enjoyed the songs you shared too.
The Creed song was amazing, Joanne, thanks for sharing it with us. It is good to remember what we believe, why we believe it, and to give thanks to the One Who gave it. Have a wonderful 4th of July celebration!
Joanne, I find the Apostles Creed refreshing and reassuring. It’s a great place to return to in times of turmoil to ground our hearts.
Am sure I’ve heard this group, and this song, but I can’t bring it to the forefront of my mind in these late night/early morning hours. Will give it a listen later today. As to your encouraging post, a much-deserved THANK YOU. I loved your reference to The Apostle’s Creed and the truths it bears. We as Christians need to know what we believe and we need to be able to show in Scripture the reason for our beliefs. “Always be ready to defend God’s truth.” Another amazing post my friend. God’s blessings.
Joanne, it’s such a blessing to be able to connect with the truths of scripture through music. Thanks so much for including these videos with your posts so often.
