I need reminders of what I believe and why. Maybe you do too.

In my Bible is a copy of The Apostles Creed which I move forward each time I get a new Bible. When I hear or sing Rich Mullins’ song, Creed, my soul swells with the reminders which flood my soul.

Why? For they are truth – His Truth. His unchanging and eternal truth.

The other day, a portion of Scripture brought the reminder once again.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; (1 Corinthians 15:3-6, NASB)

Paul puts in writing three truths for us to cling to:

  • Christ died for our sins.
  • Christ was indeed buried, placed in the tomb.
  • He was raised from the dead on the third day.

Paul reminds us of those who had seen Christ after His resurrection. Eyewitnesses – there were about 500 believers who had seen Him after His resurrection. No delusion or false account there.

Why are these truths important for us to know and believe?

These are the truths which continue to bring hope to us. One day He will return, we will be resurrected to life and all will be made right – all because of Jesus and the hope He brings.

We need to not only know Whom we believe in,  but also what we believe. Sometimes music helps us to deeply absorb these truths into our souls. It is how I feel each time I hear Creed by Rich Mullins, and We Believe by Steven Curtis Chapman.

Today if you are struggling in your faith, I offer you Paul’s words from Scripture and these two songs. Take time to read Paul’s words and hear the songs and may your heart be filled with a renewed faith and truth to cling onto.

“We believe we believe, You are GodWe believe we believe, You are goodYou have conquered the grave, Taken our sin awayWe believe we believe every Word.”

(We Believe by Steven Curtis Chapman)

As we cling to these truths,
they bring hope
and light to our souls.

Last week I shared on gratitude and the importance of saying. “Thank you.” Seems I wasn’t the only one thinking on this subject. I love when God has a theme going. In her post, “Why We Say Thank You” HERE, Jennifer shares that when we give thanks in our circumstances, not for our circumstances, our focus is lifted from our circumstances to the One who is able to undertake in every circumstance.
