Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Hidden.
Ever play hide-and-seek with a toddler? They close their eyes even when they are in plain sight so that you can’t see them. In their minds, they are hidden and unable to be seen.
Maybe we are more like toddlers than we care to admit.
We can often think we are unseen, or hidden, from God because we cannot see Him.
“And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must answer.”
(Hebrews 4:13, NASB)
Each of us need to live circumspectly before our God and man. While we may be able to hide our whereabouts, activities, feelings, and our motives from man, we are to remember that nothing is hidden from God.
We are best able to live rightly before God and man with help from one source which has been provided for us:
“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11, NLT)
With God’s Word hidden in our hearts,
everything is brought out into the open,
and we are hidden in Christ.
That word has two very different connotations. I do value my hiddenness in Christ and always want to live in such a way that I don’t mind that nothing is hidden from him.
Our hiddenness in Christ frees us to leave nothing hidden from Him. It truly is amazing to think on the freedom and protection He lovingly provides to us.
A toddler with their eyes closed is a great illustration of how we must appear before God, Joanne, as nothing is hidden from His sight.
Kinda hard to hide from God,
’cause the Dude’s, like everywhere,
and He’s got a reach so broad,
with light step like Fred Astaire,
that He will sneak up from behind,
and if you sin you take the risk
of hearing in your heart and mind
a quiet holy ‘Tsk, tsk, tsk!’,
and that really takes the fun
out of a trip to Hooter’s,
joking ’bout Who Is The One
while downing chips and whiskey shooters.
Better to avoid God’s trolling
and just stick with beer and bowling.
I love that image of toddlers thinking they are hidden, so sweet and so naive. Yet we still think the Almighty will not notice! Oh dear! Thank you for the reminder that he sees us, and keeps us hidden with Him.
He sees all that is hidden and yet, we are safe with and in Him.
Truth for daily life. Thank you, Joanne.
Yes! I’m with yo-yo. The similar wavelength with this one word. Same scripture- Hebrews 4:13. Late to post at #18 this week.
Honestly, I’m guilty of that… of sometimes forgetting that God sees it all.
needing to REMEMBER this as I go about my day.
Helps me be better when I remember you know?
We laugh at a toddlers’ misunderstanding of reality without realizing we’re guilty of the same! An insightful, post, Joanne (and in only 5 minutes!!).
Love that you used the game hide and seek in your prompt! I used the game as well from a different angle. Psalm 119:11 is a beautiful scripture. Thank you for your words. FMF19
It is peculiar how we think we can successfully hide. Even among other people, we aren’t as good at hiding as we think we are. People often sense when things aren’t right with us; we might as well just blurt it out when it would be helpful and possible. It might make everyone feel better.
