In these times we are living, we need to know what is true more than ever. The way we do this most effectively is through the daily and consistent reading of Scripture.
Truth can be defined as a fact that can not be disputed. It is a verified reality.
News reports can make it difficult to distinguish the difference between truth and falsehood. We now have apps in place to check all facts and reports.
And yet- God’s truth prevails. God can not lie. The possibility does not even exist.
“The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.” (Psalm 119:160, NASB)
The greatness of God’s Word is that we can count, rely, and depend on the words before us as truth. There is no error which can be found, no lie mixed in. Every word has been perfectly spoken and will never need to be explained or taken back.
I once read a quote which stated:
“The Bible is a rock of diamonds, a chain of pearls, the sword of the Spirit; a chart by which the Christian sails to eternity, the map by which he daily walks, the sundial by which he sets his life; the balance in which he weighs his actions.” (Thomas Watson)
Every word contained between these two covers is truth and therefore, we can trust every word. God’s ways are founded in truth and as such, will keep our lives firm and stable, even on the most unstable of days.
“Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day.” (Psalm 25:5, NASB)
God’s Word = Truth.
May it be the chart, the map, the sundial,
and balance by which we live.
Patsy Burnette’s post seems to fit in perfectly with my post this week. In her post, “7 Psalm 119 Prayers“, she shares: “Psalm 119 is a celebration of the importance of God’s Word in the life of the faithful. It is also a call for us to obey and follow His Word.” Click on the title to read her post and enjoy her resources.

Today I may be joining …
Amen indeed. This makes me remember times when I’ve spoken about Jesus and relatives or past friends have gotten mad, I figured they didn’t want to receive the truth. I’ve come across several people who value mainstream media as truth. The thing is— He knows I tried to share about him.
Thanks bunches for hosting my friend. Blessings…
As I watch or read the news, I have come to the point of filtering it all through Scripture. I have found this to bring me much peace. And regarding those with whom you shared Christ, the seed has been sown. May the Lord send someone along to water it. Sometimes it is a timely process. The Lord will use your words in His time and in His way as He brings it back to their remembrance. Blessings on your day, Paula!
I’m so thankful for God’s eternal truth. We can rely on it unreservedly and trust it though the world tries to undermine it.
As we stand firm, His Word will remain established in our hearts.
I’m thankful for the promise that God’s word makes us wiser than our teachers and the so-called experts!
Amen! I always worried about my lack of education, wishing I had furthered my education. I am so grateful He makes us wiser!
Every single one of these metaphors speaks to me. Thanks for the push to stay close to truth!
Thank you for the constant push you bring to me as well!
“Every word contained between these two covers is truth and therefore, we can trust every word.” I don’t know if I could have made it all these years if I had not stood on His Word So thankful to have it!
I am right there with you, Jerralea. There is no way I would have ever made it through without Scripture to give me all I needed for each day! So grateful to have you here!
Joanne, that’s a great quote by Thomas Watson. And what a comfort in these confusing days to know we can stand on the firm foundation of scripture, no matter what the fact-checkers say. Wonderful post!
Thank you for reading, Lois. I am so grateful to know, with confidence, every word in God’s Word is truth.
I too am so thankful to have God’s Word. Its guidance and encouragement have been invaluable over the years through some challenging times. The more I learn, the more I want to learn! And that’s another glorious feature: we will never run out of fresh inspiration from its pages!
Yes! I am finding that the more I learn from Scripture, the more I have to yet learn! It truly is inexhaustible!
Joanne, I recently read that when a nation takes God’s truth out of things; government, education & it’s society people will create their own ‘truths’ for there is no real truth to measure against when God’s Truth isn’t honored.
Such wisdom in those words…
Blessings, Jennifer
You brought to mind where Scripture tells us not to move the boundary line. Now I am going to need to go find and read it.
As a former journalist, the fall of truth and honor in the profession have left me so disappointed. The only truth I am assured is found just where you explained it would be – in the Bible. I am so thankful for His truth!
Maryleigh, how did I not know you were a journalist? Amazing! I can only imagine how deep your disappointment is. So grateful there is One who will never disappoint!
So loved this post Ms. Joanne. I’ve stopped watching the news on television (pretty much all television) these days because everything is spun, slanted, opinionated, and meant to deceive. I still get news from “anti-social” media posts, etc., and all of it breaks my heart for different reasons. The amazing thing about God’s Word is that within it, we find Scripture to help us understand what this world is, where this world is going, and guidance to help us sojourn through it. Like you ma’am, I am so glad that I’m no longer a part of it, but a foreign visitor to a broken and barren land. “Help me to shine Your light, Lord.” God’s blessings ma’am.
“The amazing thing about God’s Word is that within it, we find Scripture to help us understand what this world is, where this world is going, and guidance to help us sojourn through it.” That, my friend, is truth!
Great article Joanne, especially for the times in which we live. So much distorted truth and unreliable information. I love the quote by Watson, it gives the perfect perspective!
