Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Soon.
The words immediately come quickly to mind and the tune is familiar, bringing comfort and assurance. We had seen him sing the song at live concerts many times when I was growing up.
“Soon and very soon,
We are going to see the King, Soon and very soon, We are going to see the King. Soon and very soon, We are going to see the King, Hallelujah, hallelujah, We are going to see the King.”
(as sung by Andrae Crouch)
The words of Jesus also return to mind. Jesus shared His thoughts with His disciples one day:
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” (John 14:1-3, NLT)
Jesus says these words to His disciples in the midst of troubled days. He promises them He will return and one day, they will be with Him. There will no longer be separation or death or sorrow. They will dwell alongside of Him in the place He is preparing for His people.
In the middle of troubling days, trust in God. Trust in Jesus. Don’t let your hearts be troubled. He is preparing a place for us.
“Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live.” (John 14:19, NLT)
And this is the promise He gives to us as well:
“When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.†(John 14:3, NLT)
Soon, He will return –
in the future, promptly, quickly, and willingly.
*** As I have continued to think on the word “soon”, another song came to mind. May the urgency of the word remind us of why we are here.

Today I may be joining …
Soon is all about learning to live in the wait. The disciples certainly us how to live that! There is no breath holding in the soon! There’s strength and hope in your five minute encouragement! Thanks you, friend!
Soon. I love that promise in that word. I’ll be singing that song in my head all day.
There is not so long to wait,
the way the Lord God views the scene,
and one day it will be great,
and we are gonna live the dream,
every day a Southern Sunday,
noisy church, it’s really fun,
fried chicken lunch, and then some play,
shooting lots and lots of guns.
In the meantime let’s prepare
in each heart and in each mind,
so that when we do get there
we will not be deaf and blind
to the blessings and cool things
set up by our own King of Kings.
I thought of the Andrae Crouch song immediately as well. So much promise in the word “Soon” and so we wait and eagerly anticipate the day. Visiting from FMF#12
What hope we have as followers of Jesus! I love to listen and connect things to song as well. Thank you for sharing today.
A wonderful collection of scriptures to reflect and mediate on, I too shared that song by Andre Couch, it also immediately came to mind.
Come, Lord, soon. Soon is never soon enough for us, is it? Thanks for sharing a comforting & motivating hymn.
You have me smiling an singing this morning Ms. Joanne. I thinking, “Her middle name must be JOY!” 🙂
That song was the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw this week’s post, and I used it in my post as well.
(visiting from #23)
