Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Persist.
Persist is defined as “to continue steadfastly or firmly in some state, purpose, course of action” (from dictionary.com).
We pray each day for needs and concerns for ourselves and others. The answer does not always come quickly; and so, we persist. We continue to come before God verbalizing situations and and people in need of Him.
We persist in prayer …
“Rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer.” (Romans 12:12, NASB)
“With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit.” (Ephesians 6:18, NASB)
“The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” (James 5:16b, NASB)
“Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17, NASB)
“The longer I go on, the more I find that prayer and faith can overcome every difficulty.” (George Mueller)
“Prayer is the greatest of all forces, because it honours God and brings Him into active aid.” (E.M. Bounds)
“Four things let us ever keep in mind: God hears prayer, God heeds prayer, God answers prayer, and God delivers by prayer.” (E.M. Bounds)
May we persist in prayer.

Today I may be joining …
Keep on praying for your mates,
don’t let sloth lead you astray,
’cause prayer can stall the darkest fates,
so on your knees, chum, every day.
Prayer’s not just a courtesy
we offer God in our proud grace;
it’s shield against adversity,
protection in this fallen place
where monsters roam the streets at night
and demons undermine our land
to say lie’s truth and dark is light,
and so prayer’s asking for a Hand
from Almighty God above
to help support the ones we love.
Andrew, every week I think this is my favorite one that you have written specifically to me. Today I KNOW this one is my favorite! Friend, you have blessed me deeply.
Amen!!
Amen! May we always persist in prayer!
Such beautiful and encouraging scriptures and prayer quotes, Joanne! Thanks for today’s encouragement!
Indeed, may we persist in prayer and always be supporting and encouraging each other through prayer. Visiting from FMF#12
Amen, Joanne. May we indeed persist in prayer every day, and night, ongoing.
FMF#2
Encouraging scriptures and quotes that certainly can assist with the desire to persist, thank you for sharing!
persisting in prayer is our only hope. our only peace, our only choice. praying without ceasing has become my mantra, my lifestyle, my freedom in Christ.
“praying without ceasing has become my mantra” – I so agree!
I am with you in Romans 12! Re-reading and being reminded to persist, hope, keep going, and learn along the way.
Romans 12 is such a powerful chapter. May we keep persisting!
Amen, Joanne!
Thanks for the reminder (and the one in Andrew’s sonnet too).
Sometimes it feels hard to persist, when nothing seems to be happening and I wonder what good it’s doing to keep praying, but that’s what we need to do. We don’t know what God is up to in the background.
Sandra, you have made a needed point. We don’t know what God is up to in the background. Our part is to persist.
It’s our greatest thing to persist in isn’t it? FMF17
