Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Ignore.
Ignore … “to refrain from recognizing; to overlook; to neglect” (dictionary.com).
Often when having to make a decision or choice, we seek the thoughts of those around us – spouse, parents, friends, and pastors. We desire to make a correct decision, and arrive at the best outcome.
We can be confident God desires the same for His children:
“The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8, NLT)
We know for certain God will guide us. The problem lies with us as we often ignore Him.
As we pray and turn to Scripture, God brings instruction and shows us what is best for us. But we are the ones who need to hear and obey.
His guidance may be contrary to popular opinion, not our thoughts, or not the advice given by others. It may not seem logical or easy. But it will always be right, best, and wise. It will be life-giving.
“Ignore the Word and suffer; honor God’s commands and grow rich. The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, so, no more drinking from death-tainted wells!”
(Proverbs 13:13-14, MSG)
Do not ignore God’s commands.
He will always guide, advise, and watch over us.

Today I may be joining …
Isn’t it amazing how one prompt can produce such different (or similar) posts?
Your words today dovetail with my own thoughts. God is so good at patiently teaching us the lessons we need to learn.
FMF #5
Barb, I am always amazed at the varied and similar thoughts we all share on the very same prompt. Somehow by the time I am done reading several posts, God weaves them all together into one message just for me 🙂
Some ask others for advice,
to judge, become aware,
but they don’t find me very nice,
because I just don’t care
what the other folks may think,
what might make some things clear.
Instead I’ll have another drink,
so roll on some more beer!
Most say this is really dumb,
in fact, a doggone shame,
but I am what I’ve become
with only me to blame,
and I have to hope that God will see
some grace within my honesty.
Andrew, somehow I do not think God would ever ignore you. In fact, I think He is rather blessed by your honesty and has used it to make us all think a bit differently as we read your words! Blessings!
I love that you are still participating in FMF. It is such a great way to keep our writing muscles strong. Ignore is a good word and I like the scripture you chose as your focus.
Mary, FMF is probably one of my favorite linkups. I am always amazed at all the varied, and similar thoughts that come together each week. I am not sure that it strengthens my writing muscles as much as it strengthens my spiritual muscles which are encouraged each Friday.
So true, Joanne, God waits to give us wisdom, we are the ones who choose when we will come to Him in the decision-making process.
We’re often told to ignore the advice we’re given that isn’t sound, but that only applies to human advice! God’s wisdom and guidance is always perfect and right and we shouldn’t ever ignore that! Good word today! Visiting from FMF#7
Great proverb!
Thank you.
oh wow, The Message really hits home on this verse, doesn’t it. praise God for the power of His Word to wake us up and pull us back onto the right path.
weekend blessings to you, Joanne …
I love that God guides us and that he knows the best path for us to take. We’d be foolish to ignore that.
Good word here Ms. Joanne! Thank you ma’am.
Good message and verses, Joanne.
Thanks for sharing.
P.S. Looks like we found the same picture to use.
Whenever I ignore God’s cammand or guidance, it always turns out bad. Thank you for sharing this helpful message.
Thank you, Joanne.
“Ignore the Word and suffer; honor God’s commands and grow rich. The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, so, no more drinking from death-tainted wells!â€
(Proverbs 13:13-14, MSG)’ That is such a powerful translation! Couldn’t be clearer!
Grateful for the guidance we can get from God. We’re never left alone to make our decisions! That means so much to me.
