Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Receive.
Receive can be defined as getting something whether that be delivered or given. Upon looking in the dictionary, one definition stood out: “to have (something) bestowed, conferred, etc” (dictionary.com).
Reading the definition brought one verse to mind:
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:12, NASB)
We receive Christ, taking Him as our own, our Savior; but then, we receive even more. He bestows on us the right to become children of God.
We offer our hearts, our lives to Him and He receives us as His own. It is as we receive Him, and are accepted into His family, we can then sing:
“I am found, I am Yours
I am loved, I’m made pure I have life, I can breathe I am healed, I am free.”(Here’s My Heart by Casting Crowns)
So simple. We receive Him and receive even more.
It’s the gift that keeps on giving,
offered to you and me
to ensure forever-living
in Christ, but though it’s free,
some drongos will not take it,
suspicious silly sheep!
I bet that Jesus has a fit
when He sees them keep
their counsel so moronic,
so rooted in their pride,
and it’s so ironic
that they try to hide
their heads in one another’s wool,
backs turned upon a life so full.
What a beautiful explanation of the Good News! And I love that song.
He is the most important and most blessed one we could receive.
receive him… not turned away… not even one. FMF20
Joanne, it’s amazing to think that we don’t have to earn anything from God and that our job is to receive in faith.
Always a blessing. Thank you for the gift of inspiration today ma’am.
What a blessing to receive and invite others to do the same.
Love that song. Love Casting Crowns. Love Jesus most of all.
Amen!
Such a powerful verse! It’s so good to read your words again… I have been away from Blogging for a while but what a blessing to rediscover spaces filled with faith and hope and truth!
Blessings!
I appreciate this truth, Joanne: “We receive Him and receive even more.” It’s one of the miracles of believing.
