Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Perform.
The first thought which came was how grateful I am to not have to be part of a performance. Not having any talent to sing or act, and not liking large crowds relieves me of having do any.
Then another meaning came to mind – to perform – to carry something out to its full effect.
This thought brought to mind One who performs with excellence. One who carries out an action to its full effect which is, to cause wonderment by which He alone is known.
“Then God said, “Behold, I am going to make a covenant. Before all your people I will perform miracles which have not been produced in all the earth nor among any of the nations; and all the people among whom you live will see the working of the Lord, for it is a fearful thing that I am going to perform with you.” (Exodus 34:10, NASB)
He alone performed miracles and acts never seen before or since …
He defeated the Egyptians,
He split the Red Sea for the people to pass safely,
He provided manna fresh each morning,
He provided meat to be eaten,
He provided water to drink in the desert,
He provided a land,
He brings freedom, healing, and deliverance.
He alone is God,
who alone performs wonders even today,
so that we come to know Him.
He alone is God, who alone performs wonders even today, so that we come to know Him.
Open our eyes, Lord, to see Your mighty wonders. Amen

He is faithful to perform and complete what He has begun in us, Joanne!
If He’ll perform a miracle
He’d better do it soon.
I don’t know I can wait until
an untold future moon.
I’ve been fighting as I can,
harder than I thought I could;
please tell me there’s a master plan
that bends the awful to the good!
But that cannot be mine to ken,
and question may well be a sin,
and so I will devote my pen
not to doubts that lie within,
but point them with best effort toward
the promises of Holy Word.
I love the fresh view of “perform.” We don’t need to perform for God, because He already performed perfection for us!
I love this perspective on “perform” – it reminded me of the line “he has done all things well” and that is exactly how God does it. Performs all his mighty works in order to show us who he is. Visiting today from FMF#14
I love this take on the word “perform”. It is good to remember that the reason God performs miracles is his desire for people to know him.
Wonderful, Joanne. Thank you. Yes, it is He alone who performs miracles, healings, salvation for us, and transformation in us.
I’m so grateful for the wonders God has performed in my own life through the years too!
