Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Guess.
“Guess” is defined as “to estimate or conjecture about correctly” (dictionary.com).
When it comes to making an important decision, I’m not one given to taking a guess. I much prefer knowing for certain I made the right choice.
I’m grateful decisions do not need to be made on my limited understanding. There is One who holds the plan and purposes of our lives. There is One who will provide guidance which is wise and perfect.
“You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” (Psalm 16:11, NASB)
“He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:3, NASB)
“The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9, NASB)
“For You are my rock and my fortress; For Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.” (Psalm 31:3, NASB)
May I guess less and
trust Him all the more
to lead the way.
I appreciate this distinction between stepping into a known way and the scary practice of guessing.
I think nothing scares me more than taking a guess on my own. Knowing He is with me and leading the way brings me such assurance in proceeding ahead.
I guess that we are fortunate
life’s not a guessing-game,
for when you get right down to it,
the answer’s in His holy name.
I guess I never should have guessed
about His plans for me;
my mind should have been quite impressed
that all the darkling mystery
in which I had felt shrouded,
a-wander in the mist,
was there because I doubted
and in doubt tried to resist
the gentle Hand that moved me toward
the simple truth within the Word.
Amen, Andrew …. “the answer’s in His holy name.”
Yes, may we trust Him with our choices. We don’t have to guess! I love your scripture passages here. I took a similar angle in my post. It took me longer than 5 minutes to put my thoughts down this week, but I love the simplicity of your post and heartfelt words. The image is perfect too. Happy Friday! Jennifer, FMF
Much appreciated, Jennifer.
I like the close of your post… that need to trust God more to direct steps needing to be taken. visiting from FMF2
“Oh for grace to trust Him more!”
Thank God that I.don’t have to guess. I am to trust Jesus my salvation and the Word of God. He fulfills His will for me.

Yes, He will. He has gone before you, Marilyn, and will continue to make the way smooth.
Glad I don’t have to guess which way to take – but I do need to trust God and listen closely to what he says.

Indeed we do! “Oh for grace to trust Him more!”
Thank you Joanne for the reminder of the security and certainty we have in God’s ways. Trusting feels scary sometimes but no where near as scary as guesswork!
I’m not one to guess either, I like to know for certain. Worship and praise be One who holds the plan and purposes of our lives. Blessings.

Amen!
