Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Aware.
Aware means to know something or have a knowledge of something. To be conscious of the goings on around oneself.
It doesn’t take much to be aware the world around us is in flux. I am aware change happens constantly – politically, socially, economically, religiously, and personally.
A concordance brings this verse before me:
“Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth;
Will you not be aware of it?
I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.”
(Isaiah 43:19, NASB)
The reading of this verse usually causes me to focus on two truths:
- God is doing something new and,
- God makes a way even in the midst of days we feel we are in a wilderness.
But I had not focused, or perhaps even noticed the word ‘aware’ in this verse before. One more truth was now spread out on the page before me:
- God is always at work doing something.
I need to be aware of the activity of God or I will totally miss it. God is working but I have the responsibility to be aware of His activity.
Will I see what He is doing?
May I be ever aware even today.

Whew! That is so good!!
Joanne, I want to be more aware of what God is doing and less captivated by the distressing changes around me. Wonderful verse and thoughts!
Me too, Debbie, me too!
oh I know… we have to watch for it or sometimes it goes right over our heads doesn’t it? FMF9
It truly can, Annette.
The world is always changing,
part by clanging part,
but God is rearranging
the pieces of my heart
to cope with all the daily news
that’s in my Facebook feed
so I don’t go and get the blues,
but turn to what I need,
the truth of His great love for us,
the sacrifice of His own Son
that pulled us from beneath the bus,
and showed that He was one
with the critters He did make
and whom He never would forsake.
It’s Barb’s birthday today, and our anniversary…and my nickname for her is Critter. So I had to work that into a sonnet!
Happy Birthday to Barb! â¤ï¸
Andrew, Happy Birthday to Barb! And … Happy Anniversary to you both!
Joanne, such a small word, but so rich with meaning! Thank you for helping us be more aware!!
What a great call forward to be aware of what God is doing in us, around us, and in others, Joanne. ~Lisa, FMF #3
Wise words.
Thanks for sharing.
Sounds like the choice is ours – will we choose to be aware and pay attention to what God is doing so we can be a part of it? Or will we choose to remain unaware of his work and miss out on blessings?
