Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Know.
Every day the news tells us of changes occurring in our world, our country, and communities.
Thanks to technology, we are able to learn about these events faster than ever before. Almost as quickly as they happen, they are being reported, often before all the facts are even fully known.
With the passing of time, I am discovering that the older I get, the less I know.
The dictionary defines “know” as: “to perceive or understand as fact or truth; to apprehend clearly and with certainty” (dictionary.com).Â
I do not know how to solve wars, formula shortages, pandemics, health challenges, and economic difficulties. I do not know how to resolve racism, hatred, and strained relationships. I do not know the answer for climate changes, rising fuel prices, and pandemics.
But the older I get, there is one thing I know more certainty:
“For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” (2 Timothy 1:12, NKJV)
And today is a good time to remember what I know.

Today I may be joining …
I enjoyed your post. It’s good to hold onto the things we know are true when life is so crazy.
God bless you.
I don’t know how to solve this stuff,
the world’s really bad scenes,
and I have truly seen enough
to make opium dreams
seem quite like a good escape,
a place of stoner bliss,
but that’s a path I cannot take
for it would make me miss
the chance to give a little bit
to cure a little part,
to clear up a little s***,
and that might be a start
to get others to come along,
for together we are strong.
Joanne, could you possibly cut my ‘website’ listing attached to the comment above? I pasted in the wrong one, a meme sent as a joke to a mate who’d been in Mogadishu during the bad times.
My fingers worked faster than my brain, which is not unusual.
The link attached to this comment is correct.
Sorry to trouble you, and thanks.
It was no trouble. Hopefully I have done it correctly as I am not the most computer savvy person 🙂
Just listened to a podcast on James challenging me to make my SAY match my DO. It really is a challenge to live up to what we know.
And I would love to know how to find Debby Hudson’s work on Unsplash!
Michele, regarding Debby Hudson’s work, I would love to know as well. I find them quite by accident when I am scrolling for images. But if I figure it out, I will let you know! 🙂
I love this, Joanne. Holding to God and realizing He knows all is a comfort.
Blessings,
Tammy
I am constantly amazed at new words, trends, concepts, and world problems that continuously arise. It’s more than I can keep up with. I’m thankful to know Him and leave the rest to Him
Said another way….
The more we know,
the more we realize
how little we actually know!
I love it!
I love that verse and it immediately put the hymn in my mind 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Joanne, the best thing to “know” is Christ and our eternal place in Him. Such encouragement here today!
So true Joanne… we know the Lord!
Blessings,
Jennifer
Love this, Joanne.
Thanks for sharing.
