Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Heavy.
It’s been a heavy two years as hard times seem to have struck the world as a whole.
We’ve had to endure a pandemic, losses, illnesses, stress, extreme weather patterns where storms brought unseen damage, unemployment, political unrest, racial challenges, and unwanted transitions.
Even if these weren’t all experienced by everyone, knowing and reading about the difficulties others were going through makes for a heavy heart.
And now … the images coming from Ukraine makes hearts even heavier. How do people ever recover from what their country is experiencing?
I’m grateful we can take these heavy burdens to God in prayer.
“Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.”
(Oswald Chambers)
“Prayer is the forerunner of mercy. Turn to sacred history, and you will find that scarcely ever did a great mercy come to this world unheralded by supplication.” (Charles Spurgeon)
When our hearts are moved and feeling heavy, it is time for us to do the greater work of prayer.
“Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, the God who is our salvation. Selah.” (Psalm 68:19, NASB)

Today I am joining …
I’m thankful we can take our heavy cares and concerns to Him in prayer, Joanne.
Reading your lovely post, I’m reminded of the old hymn:
What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer
Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Thank you!
Just stopped by from FMF#10
You made me smile, Heather, as I was humming that song as I was writing. Blessings!
The world’s become a heavy place
with wars, and weirdos too,
and I guess a saving grace
is it don’t make me blue.
I still skip along the lane,
a-kicking at the cans,
singing some old hymn-refrain
that no-one understands,
for how might the world improve
if I fume and fuss,
sinking face in frowning groove
like some old Gloomy Gus?
If it’s dark I’ll banish night
with a heart kept gay and light.
Indeed, Andrew, the joy of the Lord is your strength!
It’s easy to feel helpless in these situations. This is a great reminder that prayer is actually the best thing we can do.
I love the quote by Oswald Chambers, I have it written down somewhere as well. Great post, thanks for sharing. (Visiting from FLF)
He DAILY bears our burdens. I am not sure I noticed that word before in this passage. I know this heaviness and so want the lightness of Christ. He is near. I am so grateful.
Linda, you made me smile as I don’t think I ever noticed that word – DAILY – before either. I am amazed at the little nuances which the Lord highlights each day as we read His Word. Blessings!
I’m so thankful we can cast all our cares on Him.
isn’t it wonderful that we can do that?

An encouraging and timely message, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the encouraging message.
I don’t know how people manage who don’t have Jesus in their life.
