Somewhere during the pandemic, I took to baking bread. I found myself inspired, motivated, and challenged by the many wonderful photos of home baked bread which were shared online.
The warmth, aroma, and nourishment made my attempts all worth the effort.
Jesus compared Scripture to the eating of bread, as we read in His own words:
“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.†(Matthew 4:4, NASB)
So what can we learn from this comparison?
- Individually. Much the way we each eat bread, we need to absorb God’s Word for ourselves. No one can consume God’s Word on our behalf.
- Daily. We need nourishment each day to maintain strength, energy, and focus. To maintain a strong spiritual life, we need God’s Word in our hearts and minds on a daily basis.
- Health. Without daily nourishment from God’s Word, our faith will weaken. Scripture will become words of life as we consume and apply them to our lives each day.
The more I baked bread, the more I found myself wanting to bake bread.I hope you will join me at Woman to Woman Ministries HERE for the rest of this post on lessons gleaned from home made bread.

I love this teaching of Christ; and it often reminds me that I cannot sustain myself on bread along. I need the meat of God’s word if I am to grow and mature in Christ, and I need the living water from the Holy Spirit to quench my thirst. Great lesson my friend.
We all need the bread of life which is Jesus Christ. I’m thankful for the ways God gives us to draw closer to Him.
That loaf of bread looks delicious! God’s word is like vitamins. We need to constantly take them in!
