Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Important.
Important … defined as “of much or great significance or consequence”.
Jesus was once asked the question:
“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?â€
(Matthew 22:36, NLT)
I will never forget hearing Beth Moore share on this portion in a conference. In the Greek, the words “most important” is the word “protos”, from which we derive our English word “priority”.
She went on to explain the question could thus be worded, “Teacher, what is the priority of life?”
Jesus replied:
“‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. ’This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.†(verses 37-40, NLT)
God is after our hearts. His desire is for us to love Him completely. This is most important to Him and should be our priority in life.
And then love our neighbors, those who are around us – our families, those whom we work, to school, church, pass in the street, and meet in the grocery store lines.
Our lives should be lived out of our love for God. He must be the center and priority of our lives.
“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.†(John 13:34-35, NLT)
May we be known for our love –
our love of God and our love for one another.
It’s how we will prove to the world that we are His.
This is most important.

Today I am joining …
Definitely the most important commandment!
Blessings as you fulfill it this year!
Live for love you have for God,
for love He has for you,
and you’ll be super-duper awed
to learn that it is true,
what years back the Beatles sang
that when push comes to shove
the worldly ways, they can go hang;
all you need is love.
And you will walk in Sonshine
through your earthly days,
entering a bliss divine
in which you’ll nowt but praise
that the God whom you adore
really loves you even MORE.
And now you have me humming, “all you need is love …”.
so grateful He pursues my wandering heart over and over. always love reading your words, Joanne.
Isn’t it something how one phrase from times past stick with us. I have several and they still minister life to me.
It is amazing to me how words of truth stay with us. They keep teaching us and reminding us for all of our lives.
Love one another. Amen.

The first and most important commandment. Many blessings for the coming year. Just stopped by from FMF #18
I read your post but was unable to leave a comment (probably my error). Yes, this time of year we tend to focus on what is important and then we remember what is most important. May we keep our eyes on Jesus and our hearts wholly His in the days ahead. May you have a blessed 2022!
This verse came to mind this morning as I was considering the prompt. You explained it well. Thanks! Happy Friday –
Amen! We will be known by our love. I still have a long way to go on that. I do want to be loving; but sometimes life makes it difficult. I must love anyway!
We can do it as we rely totally on Him to deposit His love in our hearts.
Wonderful message on God’s love and our calling to love Him first and most. An “important” reminder for us to start off the new year. Wishing you a blessed 2022, Joanne.
Life seems less complicated when we focus on that most important command. Thanks for drawing our hearts back to the center, Joanne!
Indeed the greatest important command. To love one another. Just lovely Joanne. Blessings.
