Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Rescue.
Upon seeing the word prompt, “rescue”, the thought immediately came that I need to be rescued every day. Rescued from myself, the news, the concerns of the day, emotions, and from this world.
It all can press in, and weigh on, my heart and thoughts. It is then I remember the One who came to rescue me from all of the cares of this world.
“The Lord rescues the godly; he is their fortress in times of trouble. The Lord helps them, rescuing them from the wicked. He saves them, and they find shelter in him.”
(Psalm 37:39-40, NLT)
All of our current worries and burdens will be made right by our God, for He loves justice and is a just God. He will make all things right and fair and well, whether here or in eternity.
We need to take the long look, thinking beyond today, thinking about eternity. What will then become important to us will be the end result of this life. Our focus will shift.
We have these promises to hold onto today –
The Lord is our fortress. The Lord will help us. The Lord will save us. The Lord is our shelter.
The Lord will rescue us,
for He alone is our Rescuer.

Today I am joining …
Good morning to you, Joanne! That old hymn ‘Rescue the Perishing’ immediately came to my mind as soon as I saw your post.
‘Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.’
My mind went to the rescue of the gospel, the power behind our much needed every day rescue! Thanks be to God!
Love the word picture in scripture about God being a fortress of protection. Thank you, Joanne!
I cling to God’s promises. Each one so true. God is our rescuer. Love Rend collective 😊 Loretta
‘For He ALONE is our Rescuer’. Oh, that little word alone rings out to me. So many times we try to rescue ourselves, but in vain, for God alone is the One who fully rescues and secures. May we have faith to turn to Him alone and wait for His promised rescue even as we celebrate each day our rescue from the bondage of sin. Blessings to you, Joanne!
Wonderful and so comforting in these worrisome times. Visiting from FMF
Amen!
Amen!
P.S. Love that old song.
The world out there just makes me cry,
there’s so much anger, so much crap,
so why is it that when I die
I’ll ask the Lord to send me back?
Let me reload magazines,
water, and a case of rats,
and then I will split Heaven’s scene
headed back to everything that’s
been dear to me through all my days,
smell of battle, smell of fear,
the canticles which showed the ways
to find that life can be quite clear
when reduced to blood and bone,
reality’s hard cornerstone.
I agree with this, Joanne, “I need to be rescued every day. Rescued from myself, the news, the concerns of the day, emotions, and from this world.” I am so thankful that He is our Refuge and Strength and a very present help in times of trouble.
Life is so much sweeter when we accept the Rescuer.
