Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Accountability.
Accountability … being answerable or having to give an answer for one’s actions, or lack thereof.
Accountability is good for us as it also gives a sense of responsibility.
Both accountability and responsibility provide boundaries by which we can make wise decisions or choices.
In remembering that one day we will be accountable for our actions, or lack of actions, should provide food for thought.
“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.” (Hebrews 4:13, NLT)
“Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.” (Romans 14:12, NLT)
With accountability comes responsibility.
Responsibility … being accountable for what is in my control or power.
What have I done with all He has given to me? Did I use the gifts and talents? Did I use them to serve Him? To reflect Him? To bring Him glory?
Did I take care of the people He entrusted to me? Was I truthful in my words? Kind in my actions? Genuine in my interactions?
Did I protect them? Sacrifice for them? Serve them? Love them deeply?
“No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8, NLT)
Accountability and responsibility –
will guide all we do before God and man.

Today I am joining …
Thank you, Joanne, your questions are good ones to ask myself today! God gives us such simple instructions, and yet too often I still am not being accountable. (Thank goodness, we are loved anyway!) Karen (FMF #9)
Karen, so true – He loves us anyway, understanding we are in process.
Accountability and responsibility, what powerful tools and truths for our lives. Thank you for sharing!
Such a good reminder to see if our hearts and actions align with His Word, “The Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.†(Micah 6:8, NLT)
So true, “Accountability and responsibility – will guide all we do before God and man.” And love.
I know that I am gonna face
Almighty God one day,
and that might be a real hard place,
for what am I to say?
You gave ability and skill,
and heart that disdained fear,
and I thought Your Holy Will
was that I drink more beer,
and dare my mates in insane ways
(“Cobber, now watch THIS!”),
not thinking I’d run out my days
and could not therefore miss
my grueling interview with you…
“You bloody drongo, what’d you DO?”
Joanne, hi! Those wise words and sweet picture are a compelling invitation and reminder. Thank you …
Amen Joanne. What great insights and a reminder for us all. Blessings.
