Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Slow.
Slow … “moving or proceeding with less speed” (dictionary.com).
We have gotten used to moving quickly, or having things instantly. We want our food to heat up in but a few minutes. We hope for our dreams to unfold in an instant.
I’ve been reading about Abraham lately.
Slow beautifully describes the manner in which God fulfilled His promise to Abraham.
Slowly.
Abraham was seventy five years old when God first spoke to him. He was one hundred when Sarah gave birth. Twenty five years of waiting on a promise.
Abraham laughed when God first gave him the promise. Didn’t see how it was possible because he was old and then, even more time passed.
At times, it seems God is working or moving at a slow pace. But Scripture tells us, our God is not slow.
“But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.“ (2 Peter 3:8-9, NASB)
Every promise, He will fulfill. He is not slow.
He is patient towards us.
Thank you, Joanne, for this other perspective on being SLOW. You have given me food for thought for today! God bless you.
Such a good reminder, Joanne. “At times, it seems God is working or moving at a slow pace. But Scripture tells us, our God is not slow.”
This scripture is one of my favorites, and it did not come to mind when I wrote about SLOW today! Thanks for including it here so that I could read it! I also like how you focused on Abraham and the slow process and timeline God worked with him! It is a good reminder to us that even later in life God will be on the move in our lives! Cheers with my empty tea cup, Jennifer
Yes (!), even later in life, in every day of our lives, God will be on the move. That is so encouraging!
God, your world is pretty nifty,
so go ahead and take a bow,
but get it over in a jiffy;
I want things, and want ’em NOW.
This cancer’s really got me feeling
that I’ve been through some endless trouble,
so get moving on the healing,
chop chop, do it on the double!
And after that, You know I’ve been
just a writin’ fool for You,
so it really is no sin
when I tell you what to do:
give me high sales with no dramas,
and an estate in the Bahamas!
So patient with us. Amen!! 🙂 Deirdre FMF#9
What beautiful and rich post. How thankful I am for God’s patience. Thanks for sharing.
I for one am so grateful for His patience.
Thank you for your words. I can relate to Abraham’s wait for the fulfillment of God’s promise. I had times when I had to wait for my son’s medical treatments and wait for his remission. Yet, in those slow moments, I met God and His great love for me. It is worth the slowness in our minds when it is quick for God.
I have sat through some of those slow times with family members. It is so true – it seemed to pass so slowly at the time but it all was so worth it.
I’m so thankful that God moves at HIS time and not MINE.

Indeed, I would have only created a mess in my time. I once heard and have remembered … He is the God of time and timing.
Thank you for these meaningful reminders – God keeps God’s promises and the timing is always perfect! Karen (FMF #7)
