Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Gentle.
My Bible commentary defines gentle as “kind, mild-mannered, soft.”
In a time when words are often spoken without much thought,
In a time when opinions are divisive on every subject,
In a time when words are causing hurt, stirring hatred, and striking our hearts,
may our words be gentle.
As we speak to those around us, may our words be kind, mild-mannered, and soft. May they break down walls, reflect thoughtfulness, bring healing, foster love, and warm our hearts.
The choice is ours to make.
“A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.“
(Proverbs 15:1, NLT)
“Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.”
(Proverbs 15:4, NLT))
Gentle answers.
Gentle words.
It’s what the world is desperate to hear.

Today I am joining …
A thought-provoking post – may my words be gentle in Jesus name. Thanks for sharing.
We need gentle. Gentle words. Touches. Actions.
Such wonderful gentle words!! 🙂 Deirdre FMF #3
amen. always praying for gentle words. thank you for sharing your words here.
Gentle. I need to be better at this.
Yes, gentleness is something I think we could all use right now. This is an area of weakness for me and your post is a great reminder.
Gentleness has never been my strong suit. I am more the bull-in-a-china-shop kind of person, but I am learning!
Kindly words, a growing tree
to shelter weary hearts,
so very vital now that we
see our world torn apart
by a wrath suppressed for years,
by a fury now let loose
that’s blind to hurt and blind to tears,
and we’re therefore called to choose
to walk a mile, then walk one more
although we are not asked,
to shine a light on mercy’s door,
and then, if we are tasked,
to walk into the very jaws
of hell, obeying Heaven’s cause.
Agree, Joanne. “Gentle words” seem to be missing from our world. More often than not, words are abrasive and crude. Even spoken in a harsh tone. I find it interesting even a fruit of the Spirit is gentleness. Thank you for this reminder!
Amen!
Beautiful reminder.
Thanks for sharing.
Amen Joanne, thank you for your gentle words of wisdom. Blessings.
