“After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.”
(1 Peter 5:10, NASB)
“We must make our choice, commit to it, and take our rightful place as confidently as a tree is planted in the ground …
Then there follows a time of establishing and testing, during which we must stand still until the new relationship becomes so ingrained in us that it becomes a permanent habit …
There is a spiritual law of choosing, believing, abiding and remaining steadfast in our walk with God. This law is essential to the working of the Holy Spirit in our sanctification and in our healing. from Days of Heaven Upon Earth

I have been thinking about commitment lately. This quote expresses my feelings so much better than I ever could: “We must make our choice, commit to it, and take our rightful place as confidently as a tree is planted in the ground”. Yes, we must commit before we can be established. Beautiful post, Joanne!
“Streams” is just a beautiful devotional. I am glad it spoke to your heart too Laurie.
I read this passage again yesterday evening and thought of the words “confidently planted” from the passage of Streams in the Desert that you quoted.
Psalm 92: 13-15 AMPC
Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.
[Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment].
[They are living memorials] to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
I love how those Scriptures read in the AMPC. “Growing in grace they shall still bring forth fruit in old age”. Such a beautiful promise we have been given. Thank you for sharing with me!
Great reminder of where we are planted.
Our walk with God is a daily choice! I am trying to pay attention to the little decisions I make that either affirm my commitment or get in the way of it.
Michele, you are so right. We so need to pay attention to what will draw us closer or away from our commitment.
Making that commitment to be obedient and faithful ahead of time helps us to follow through when times of testing come. What an excellent lesson.
So very true. May we be committed so our roots go down deep in Him.
