Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Disappoint.
It’s been a time of much discussion, disagreements, tensions, and turmoil. As we watch debates and Town Hall meetings, we wonder what will be the outcome in just about two weeks.
My heart is heavy and broken for our country. In a recent phone conversation, my voice cracked and the tears rolled as we talked about what would be ahead.
While I may not know what will be ahead, I do know the One who has known for all of time. He sits on His throne, sovereign in power, and has never vacated His throne.
And so tonight, after watching the final debate, I turned to read these verses:
“Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;
you are the praise of Israel.
In you our fathers put their trust;
they trusted and you delivered them.
They cried to you and were saved;
in you they trusted and were not disappointed.”
(Psalm 22:3-5, NIV)
May we remember the past faithfulness of God. God has always been faithful to deliver His people and so, we can put our trust in Him in the days ahead. He will not disappoint.
“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”

Today I am joining …
Jo’ we must have faith and stand strong…Father God have mercy.
Susan, I am praying for the same thing – His mercy. xo
This is a beautiful post, Joanne! I’m grateful that we can put our hope in God and know that he will never disappoint us, that he is sovereign even when the world seems chaotic.
Lesley, it is His sovereignty that I am choosing to focus on these days.
“In you they trusted and were not disappointed” and God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He’s in control. x
Amen.
This word is resonating with so many of us this year! Thank you for the beautiful reminder that we need not despair. Karen (FMF #7)
What truly awful times these are,
far worse than I had feared;
every bright and rising star
turns out to be plain weird.
And the Lord, where could He be
in all this sturm und drang?
Is He leaving you and me
to devil’s claw and fang?
I guess that this must be the place
where rubber meets the road,
and we must believe in Grace,
and Him from whom it’s flowed
from the Cross upon the Hill
to a hope that time can never kill.
Just beautiful, Andrew! May we hold onto our Hope.
I was praying about God being in control of governments yesterday and needed to remind myself of this. I have no idea what lies ahead in your country but I also have no idea what likes ahead in the UK either where I am. The one thing we do take heart in though is our awesome God and that all will be clear one day. Loretta x
Loretta, whether here in the US or there in the UK – God sees and is over it all. This is our confidence, our assurance and our hope! Praying for the UK this morning.
What a relevant passage for such a time as this, Joanne. God is sovereign and “has never vacated His throne.†Amen, my friend.
So true Joann, I as well as many other I’m sure have been praying for our country also. When uncertainty is all around, I always say. God’s got this. The Scriptures you shared are so very fitting. I love the quote from Corrie Ten Boom. Thank you so much for sharing…Blessings from FMF # 11
Our church read through the major and minor prophets this year. It was amazing–whoever was in power, God was at work, through them or in spite of them. I have to trust that He is working out His purposes though there is so much wrong. Maybe one of those purposes is to draw us out in prayer.
Yes, it is amazing to read through the words of the prophets this year. It is such a good reminder God is working in and through all that occurs to draw our hearts to follow and be faithful to Him.
Oh, Joanne. My heart is breaking for our country too. No matter what the outcome of our election is, I worry that the divisions will never be healed. Thank goodness God will not disappoint, no matter what.
Beautiful reminder, Joanne, and I love Corrie Ten Boom’s quote.
God will not disappoint; I sure need to hear this reminder too after this crazy political season and this crazy year! Thanks, Joanne.
Joanne, that passage can help us keep all this turmoil about the elections in perspective can’t it? I’m so glad our Father is on the throne and is in control . . . despite what it may look like on this side of heaven. Thank you for sharing your heart here.
Yes, trusting God with our future. Thank you for sharing with Grace & Truth. I am so glad you are a part of our community. Maree
