Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is Ć¢ā¬Ā¦ Could.
John – the beloved disciple and he knew it too. He was the one who wanted to be close to Jesus. He knew Jesus intimately and his gospel introduces us to Jesus’ words in a way to make us long for greater faith.
John tells us of Nicodemus, and Lazarus, and doubting Thomas, and the Samaritan woman. He tells us about the living water, the Passover, and the Light of the world.
It is in his gospel we find more of the words of Jesus, recorded and preserved for all time. Every story shared is so the readers will be drawn to believe in Jesus, the Son of God. Each story told is for the purpose of proving that Jesus is indeed the Son of God.
And yet it is in the very last verse that we find something so interesting to ponder. John lets us all know that the story of Jesus is larger than anything he could write or describe. The days of Jesus far exceed anything we could even imagine. The stories of the days of Jesus could not be contained in any small manner for they are greater than our minds could comprehend.
“Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.” (John 21:25, NLT)

I love this. And it reminds me that we cannot even imagine how much Jesus can do in our lives even now.
Love this comment.
I do too š and it’s true!
This is beautiful! A great reminder that our Lord is beyond understanding in his power and ability!!

That verse has always interested me as well. It sees so honest. It’s like the scene at the end of some movies, when the camera turns and you learn the narrator was there writing it all down. It speaks to the fullness of Christ. He was not just an icon; He was a real person.

I love this!! That is one of the verses that has always made me stop and catch my breath at how amazing Jesus is – such great power that defies any human ability to quantify or describe it.

I have always loved thinking about this verse. It is astounding!
That verse from John is awe-inspiring – Jesus is much more than we can ever comprehend.
Three years contained His ministry,
finite earthly footsteps,
but this is not true history,
for they do not tell the depth
of the love three-personed God
gave with open arms,
three-dimensioned grace so broad
to keep us from the harms
we would inflict upon ourselves,
and on our brothers, too.
He gave us depth where we could delve
and learn of what is true,
a wisdom of infinity
and inexhaustibility.
The finite and infinte possibilities contained in the word “could”. Thank you!
Perfect usage of could. xo
Lazarus, Thomas, Nicodemus, you and me-Jesus loves us. Wow and Amen x
Reminds me of the hymn Ć¢ā¬ÅI love to tell the story.Ć¢ā¬Ā
That hymn came to mind for me as well š
I’ve always been so intrigued by that verse! Beautiful!

beautiful whetting of my appetite as I begin my study in the book of John with my Community Bible Study! Sharing this with my CBS ladies! <3
Oh how wonderful!!!
Such beautiful thoughts! OH, my heart longs to hear those other stories, so many that the books of earth could not contain them all! What a blessed eternity we have to look forward to!
So very true, Bettie!
It really is hard to imagine…how we have just scratched the surface of all there is to know, to learn, to experience…
And blessed we are to have the recorded words we do have!
Just enough to leave us anticipating more!
What a great reminder and verse/picture to ponder upon.
Thanks for sharing.

I just love the gospel of John too. I wonder if we’ll get to hear some of those untold stories when we get to heaven? We’ll certainly have enough time to hear them š Thanks for sharing!
