Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Endure.
Upon seeing the word prompt, Psalm 136 comes to mind. It is there we find the words, “His loved endures forever”. Those words are repeated twenty six times throughout the psalm.
Remembering that tidbit, made me realize how important it was to God that we remember this truth about His love. His love endures – lasts, is unchanging, and will always be.
God’s love will not diminish over the course of time. He loves people for all time without lessening or increasing. His love remains stable, steady, and consistent in every circumstance and for all time.
My thoughts turned to another verse about love …
“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.â€Â (1 Corinthians 13:7, NLT)
Endures, according to dictionary.com means “to continue to exist; to hold out without any impairment.â€
This morning I’m remember the story of the prodigal son. The father extended grace, mercy, and love in spite of all his the pain he had endured due to his son’s actions.
The father’s love endured. He loved without impairment. His love for his son never diminished, nor weakened.
The father’s love endured. May I love like Him.
God, I thank You for your love which has endured not only throughout time, but in my very own life. I ask that you will give me the strength, the courage, and the hope I need to move forward no matter what happens in my life. Help my love for You and for others to endure to the end. To the glory and honor of Your Name alone, Amen.
I am always kind of amused by the repetition in Psalm 136. And I am sure God had it written this way because he knew we would need that many reminders!
I so agree, Michele. I have often felt like it was His way of saying, “Repeat it until you truly know and believe it.”
God’s enduring love for us, what a great reminder and thank you for your prayer 🙂
Grateful you stopped here!
Amen. Beautiful blog. It was a great comfort to be reminded once again if God’s love.

Joanne, hi! I love how so many of the Psalms repeat the same words over and over. The writer surely most have known how often we need to be reminded of God’s truth.
Thanks for going there today. I hope you are well …
26 times? Seriously? I think He knew how hard-headed we are!!!!!!!
Joanne, for some reason your words put me in mind of the image of the ‘Hound of Heaven’. I hope you enjoy this.
I thought to run and hide from God
and revel in my sin;
the land is wide, the sea is broad,
and where could He begin
to try and trace my concealed trail
(I covered my tracks well)?
I never thought that He’d prevail,
but ere dawn I could tell
that Hound of Heaven followed me
without a swerve or jog,
and as the sun rose I could see
that loving faithful Dog
who could not, would not leave me lost
tho’ blistered paws would be His cost.
Andrew, Amen! So grateful He chased you down! You have been such a blessing.
One verse I came across while preparing to write today was Psalm 37:18 “The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care, and their inheritance will endure forever.” It, too, made me think of the prodigal son. If you have never read it, I strongly encourage you to read the book, “Prodigal God” by Timothy Keller. It’s a beautiful look at that parable.
I read the book when it first came out. Perhaps it is time to get it out once again.
I am pleased God love endures forever as I would be in big trouble! God bless end #16
What a beautiful expression of this word. God’s love endures–past our sin, our failures, our troubles.
Thank you, Barbara.
Yes. His love does indeed endure forever.
