Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Worth.
We are all image bearers.
The thought has been with me for days. We bear the image of Christ. In creating man, God stamped His very image on each of us. Our worth stems from this truth – God loves us because He created us and not based on anything we may or may not have done.
Upon seeing the word prompt, I reached for the book on my shelf and searched for the words I had read a few years ago:
“Our worth doesn’t go up and down like the stock market.
Will we receive and believe God’s love for us? If we do, then we will believe we have inherent worth. When we believe our true identity as beloved, then we can be exceptional (connecting with our extraordinary God to be our best) in the ordinary things of our life.â€
(from 7 Days of Soul Care by Dolly M. Lee, page 27)
We not only have worth, we have “inherent worth”.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31, NIV)
Inherent worth. Worth that is inseparable and is permanent.
Jesus said it. Now believe it.
Today I am joining …
Inherent worth. O! I do like that!
Oh, I love how you recall the Matthew verse! Perfect for our thoughts on Worth. Thank you for the reminder that we DO bear the image of Christ. <3
I’ve never heard the term image-bearer. It’s profound.
There, in mine own looking glass,
I’m shocked by what I see;
how could this have come to pass,
that Christ looks back at me?
Consider all the bad I’ve done,
the sins so wild and wicked!
How, then, might I become
someone that He has picked
to show His face unto the world,
to bear His heart in mine?
Can my rebel lag be furled,
can I be thus refined
unto the image of His face,
to be a channel of His grace?
Andrew, it is the mystery of His amazing grace poured out onto our lives. Blessings!
oh yes indeed. 🙂 Let us more clearly see our inherent worth in the eyes of God. visiting from FMF15
