Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Less.
The word fell on me in an ironic sort of way. In these unsettling, unstable, and uncertain days we are living, we seem to want more not less.
More bleach, wipes, and hand sanitizer. More cold remedies and aspirin. More toilet paper, pasta, and rice. More mayonnaise and tuna. More canned vegetables and soups.
And so, I made my own list by which to remind myself in the days ahead …
Less anxiety … more peace.
Less worry … more trust.
Less hoarding … more generosity.
Less news … more Truth.
Less carelessness … more wisdom.
Less words … more prayer.
In these days, may we be people who say, just like John:
“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.” (John 3:30, NLT)
In these days, we need less doubt and more confidence – confidence in the One. And the prayer read earlier in the year comes to mind:
“O God of peace, who has taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be our strength: By the might of thy Spirit lift us, we pray thee, to thy presence, where we shall be still and know that thou art God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
(from The Book of Common Prayer, page 832)
What will we choose …
More or Less?
Becoming “less” in a “more” world… challenging to be sure. Thank you for your reminders.
Joanne, I love your list of less…more! It’s perfect for this present time!
Jo, as I was reading this, the words: “More of Him, less of me†came to mind. That’s how I want to live my life……🎵more, more about Jesus🎵
â¤ï¸ You!
I love your list! Yes, we need more of Jesus!
The world is spinning, isn’t it?
I’m banking on more of Jesus!
Joanne, I love your “less” and “more” list. Saving this so I can refer to it in the coming days with all the coronavirus panic swirling around this. I would add one “more” to the list: more toilet paper. We tried to buy some at the store today and they were all out – every roll of every brand! 🙂
Time to tell them how I felt,
every loudmouthed talking head,
with my brand-new leather belt
behind Ye Olde Woodshed.
I’m tired of the lies they spread
to boost their TV ratings
while some folks eat moldy bread
atop cold sidewalk gratings.
So let us now pull gospel truth
from their shifting mouths
and let them earn the Lord’s own proof
for their bank accounts,
for as they live, there’s still a deal
that would leave them free to heal.
Love this list. More of him and less of me.
Oh my gosh…yes!
“Less worry…more trust”
Love this list, Joanne. I’m going to feature you on my blog for Grace & Truth this coming Friday. We all would benefit from reading this list often! Thank you.
You packed a lot of truth into 5 minutes worth of writing. Great reminders!
I love this list, and the reminder “less of me, more of Jesus.” Thank you!
Love this post. Less of self, more of Him, in every way.
