“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life …” (Matthew 6:25, NLT)
“A warning which needs to be repeated is that “the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches,” and the lust for other things, will choke out the life of God in us. We are never free from the recurring waves of this invasion … It is one steady invasion, and these things will come in like a flood, unless we allow the Spirit of God to raise up the banner against it.
How much trouble has begun to threaten you today? … Jesus tells us not to worry about any of these things. Look again and think. Keep your mind on the “much more” of your heavenly Father.”
(Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, January 27)
“And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you.” (Matthew 6:30, NLT)
Today I am joining … Scripture & a Snapshot and Sunday Scripture Blessings .
The challenge of this kind of trust takes a concerted effort and a mindful reliance on God’s promises—and I’m wondering, too, if we all would benefit from a refresher course on the difference between a need and a want.
When young, I loved buying pretty things although we really never had riches for sure. We, it seemed, were always still the two teenagers that married and lived pay check to pay check. And, as I have aged to near the end of life, the things I thought I wanted but never needed, there is no way that they really helped in any area of my life. Food, air to breathe, food on the table, roof over our heard, happy healthy kids…those were the riches that I thank God for blessing us with year after year.
I have always been such a worrier so that scripture is surely a reminder blessing, and I am getting better with worrying and trusting more in God’s promise of Matthew 6:25
Such a good reminder that I need frequently!
