My word for this year, Savor, continues to unfold before me in the most unusual of ways, speaking to my soul the very words it needs. It is at our tables our bodies find nourishment as we sit and partake of our meals; and it is at His table our souls find the morsels needed for sustenance.
“Every meal is an opportunity to remember Jesus, to honor him and celebrate holiness.” (Shauna Niequist)
Every meal is a time to remember Him – His provision, His faithfulness, His grace.
We come to the Communion Table as a remembrance. It is there, we remember His sacrifice through His death and resurrection, so that we may live.
At His Table I am also reminded of God’s desire for my life to be a living sacrifice. This requires the letting go of anything that holds me back and letting it’s hold on me die. Only as I do so, will everything remaining then live and thrive.
I turn to read from The Book of Common Prayer, as it has become my practice as of late, and interestingly enough I read these words:
“Give us grateful hearts, our Father, for all thy mercies, and make us mindful of the needs of others, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
(from the section Prayers and Thanksgivings, #70, page 835)
The prayer brought to mind my grandma who prayed before eating any food. Yes, even before a cup of coffee and a cookie. I am reminded of the importance of saying grace –
It keeps us “mindful of the needs of others”.
I want that kind of mind. Saying grace keeps us focused on the fact that while our bellies may be filled, there are many whose are yet empty.
Every meal – an opportunity to remember the faithfulness of God in providing for us.
Every meal – an opportunity to remember the needs of others.
Today I am joining … Tell His Story and Purposeful Faith and InstaEncouragements .
Amen. Every meal is an opportunity to draw closer to God.
As much as I love to come to the table, this should be a frequent reminder for me, Joanne. 🙂 Thanks for helping us stay focused on the faithfulness of God to always provide for us!
These are great reminders, Joanne, and your grandmother was a wonderful example! I always pray over big meals””like dinner, but seldom pray over a cup of coffee and a cookie. Thought-provoking post. Thank you!
Thank you for linking up at InstaEncouragements!
