Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Repeat.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.” (Psalm 136:1a, NIV)

It’s a call to give thanks to the Lord, to express gratitude for all He has done. And He has been good and all He has done is good and for good.

But the interesting part comes in the refrain, repeated all twenty six verses. Every verse ends with …

“His love endures forever.”

This is the comforting and wonderful message of this psalm, and God knew we would need to have it repeated over and over.

“His love endures forever.”

God’s faithful love endures through everything, throughout history and towards all people. This is our call to praise. His love will endure and outlast and forever be.

The psalmist brings us down through creation, through all God’s marvelous acts with the exodus and His people, and through His care of us all.

The psalm reminds us that our God remembers us in our low estate. He frees us from our enemies. He gives food and provision to every creature. And for this, we should …

“Give thanks to the God of heaven.
His love endures forever.”
(Psalm 136:26, NIV)

I added this song, way after the 5 minutes as I’ve been humming it since reading this psalm earlier this morning.
