Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Who.
One day as Jesus was walking with His disciples, He asked them a question. “Who do people say I am?”
Jesus was not so interested in His own reputation but knew the question would lead to discussion.
They replied by saying that some people thought He was Elijah, others thought John the Baptist, and others thought He was one of the prophets.
“A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said wouldn’t be a great moral teacher. He’d either be a lunatic on a level with a man who says he’s a poached egg or else he’d be the devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse.”
– C.S. Lewis
Their response led to the real question Jesus was wanting to ask them:
“But who do you say I am?” (Mark 8:29, NLT)
This is a question each of us will need to settle
in our hearts for ourselves.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Fresh Market Friday and Faith ‘N Friends .
This is a question each of us will need to settle in our hearts for ourselves. With ONE answer. xo
Yes. So grateful to have settled it years ago. xo
I never saw that C.S. Lewis quote before. How profound! I am going to have to give that one some thought. Love your 5 minute post!
Laurie, I almost did not include that quote and felt compelled to then type it out. So grateful I did and thank you for letting me know it was new to you 🙂
Oh yes, that is the question we must answer. I’m so thankful for His grace. He is the Christ and the only way to the Father.
I love that Lewis quote. He frames the WHO question in a way that reveals its urgency.
He sure does and it is an urgency which increases with the passing of days.
You went right to the heart of the biggest question of faith, and you did it masterfully.
Andrew, you bless me with your encouragement. Thank you, brother!
So good and so true!!!
Amen, Joanne! One question we all must answer! By grace alone!
That CS Lewis quote….so thought provoking!
