Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Moment.
Moment is defined as “an indefinitely short period of time; an instant” (dictionary.com).
“God whispers to us in our pleasures; he speaks to us in our work; he shouts to us in our pain.” (C.S.Lewis)
Life goes through ups and downs, joy and pains. In the life of us all, there may be times when God disciplines us for choosing to go our own way. For not obeying His ways.
But David knew God would always come to rescue, redeem, and restore. He tells us in Psalm 50:5 (NLT):
“For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime!
Weeping may last through the night, but His joy comes with the morning.”
The weeping and sadness lasts for a short time in contrast with the joy which God brings. God is never through with us, nor does He abandon us for when He begins a work in our lives, He completes that work.
Throughout our lives, God works in our lives removing anything that does not look like Jesus. This process of pruning is done in love so that our lives grow in holiness and into the image of His Son.
When we look back,
the weeping will seem like but a moment,
and the joy a lifetime!
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Fresh Market Friday and Faith ‘N Friends .
It’s funny, I love me some C.S. Lewis. Wrote my senior thesis on his work and everything. But that quote only resonates with me partially. I find that when I’m in pain is when God is the quietest. Not in a distant way, but in a “I’ll sit here with you and hold you and be present” kind of way. Does that make sense???
Rebecca, it makes perfect sense to me. I will share that I have often felt in my pain He speaks the loudest while quietly being with me. It’s both. So I totally get what you are saying. So grateful you shared!
I love the image of pruning that you conjure up here. That is the perfect metaphor for the way Christ works in our lives.
Psalm 30.5 chased me for one solid year. July 2002 – June 2003.
That’s one of my fave Scriptures!
Love this, Joanne. Through the most horrendous pain I have found the greatest joy, and I do not think it could have been otherwise.
Oh, I love the C.S. Lewis quote! It reminds me that God is present in every moment, not matter the circumstances. Thanks for sharing!
It is always good to remember in times of pain that it won’t last forever, and that really it is just a moment compared to the eternal joy we will have!
