Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Surrender.
Surrender – brings the thought of giving oneself up to another.
Most times we tend to think of this action as a sign of weakness or defeat. Of losing oneself or one’s dream.
And yet, only as we give our lives over to God do we discover all we were ever meant to be and do.
Surrender is not weakness but in fact, a sign of strength. The words to a song I discovered about a week ago came back to my mind upon seeing the word prompt:
Arms wide open.
Pouring out my life.
Gracefully broken.All to Jesus now,
All to Jesus now.Holding nothing back,
Holding nothing back.I surrender.“
(from the song, Gracefully Broken as sung by Matt Redman)
Arms wide open. Pouring out.
Surrendered to His purposes which He ordained before the creation of this world.
Only in surrender do we discover –
His power and work in us.
Freedom to be.
We are strong when we are weak.

Same thoughts conveyed and we both even linked a song 🙂 Must be a very good sign!
It’s amazing how one word can bring a song to memory. I enjoyed the one you shared!
I did the “in the chair version” of the happy dance this morning when I was kind of parked by you and Debby Hudson! Two of my faves.
It’s in the surrender where we find the most peace and joy. xo
It is the best and most difficult place to be sometimes. But always worth it!
I didn’t become a Christian until late in life so I always viewed surrender as weakness. It really changes so much when we put Christ in it. I couldn’t agree more with your beautiful and inspiring words here. Thank you for the reminders, Joanne!
Candace, your words always encourage me.
I love that word “surrender.” I’ve been thinking a lot about it lately myself, as in: surrendering control! I never thought of it as a sign of strength. Thank you.
Betsy, it takes much strength to surrender our control to another. Our will must bend and it takes much from us to bow low.
Great post. Love this line. “Surrender is not weakness but in fact, a sign of strength.” Amen! Thanks for the reminder. Blessings!
We truly must refute the lie that surrender is weakness. For it is in surrender that we actually grow stronger.
I love the vision of arms open wide to God surrendering anything that is getting in the way of being all He wants me to be! Great post! Joining you on #fmf, Cindy
With our arms wide open, we will only be able to hold onto Him.
Beautiful post and I love the song. You really got it totally right, Joanne.
I’m not very good at surrender. Big Boys’ Rules, save the last bullet for yourself (literally, in my life), and all that. Bit of learning I need to do.
Or, perhaps, God’s going to have to make some allowances, because I’ll be seeing Him soon.
Andrew, I think you have learned more than you even realize. Praying for you and Barb tonight.
Beautiful post, and I love that song. I agree surrender is not weakness but strength for His power is made great in our weakness.
I love that song!
beautiful thoughts!
