Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Depend.
‘Depend’ has been defined as: to rely; “to place trust; to rely for support or help”
(from dictionary.com).
There is truly only One upon whom we can depend on in our deepest time of need –
“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.” (Psalm 62:5-7, NIV)
God alone is to be the One we place our trust.
David knew that no matter what he faced in life, God alone would be there for him. God alone would deliver, rescue, sustain, support, protect, encourage, provide, and comfort as only He can.
What can these verses teach us this morning about our dependence on God?
- In our times of difficulty, we depend on God alone.
- As times of difficulty rise, may our faith rise higher still so that we stand firm.
- Our hope comes from Him as we hope in Him.
So what do we do to keep our dependence placed on God?
“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge” (verse 8).
Even in our most difficult and trying of days, pour out our hearts to Him. Unburden ourselves to God in confidence we can depend on Him for our every need.
Placing our trust in God will attach us
to the One who is already attached to us.
Depend on God.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Faith Filled Friday and Faith ”˜N Friends and Fresh Market Friday .
Such a lovely and comforting message this morning.
Grateful that it was, thank you!
Excellent timing! I just finished Facing your Giants by Max Lucado–all about David. The times when he did not depend on God were the times when he experienced the most difficulty. These verses are a great reminder.
Wonderful book – perhaps time to pull it back out 🙂 It is so true and I am most grateful that we can always depend on God.
Amen! I’m in the 8 spot this week.
Love this, Joanne, and the counterpoint of commentary and Scripture is so gracefully done!
Andrew, your words meant much. May you and Barb continue to depend on God in the assurance that He has attached Himself to you. Praying!
What a blessing to know we can always depend on Him – always no matter is going on in the world. There is so much comfort in that truth. Thanks, Joanne!
