Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Play.
This morning I read the word and nothing seems to come. I quickly imagined all the fun and playful posts that would be shared.
As I sit here thinking, music softly comes from my computer. It’s what I need to keep my mind focused on my God and the truth that He is with us, guiding and directing. And the verse comes to mind:
“The people will play flutes and sing, “The source of my life springs from Jerusalem!”
(Psalm 87:7, NLT)
There is something about music. It has the powerful ability to calm, to bring peace, to remind of truth. It assures, bringing confidence that our God is able, is present, and will leave us. My awareness of the very bigness of our God and that He is the source of my life is rooted more deeply in my heart once again.
No matter where life may find me, music always blesses my heart. I play it often and loudly so that any lie trying to gain access is overcome with the truth. I sing till I believe it, till my heart and mind are soaked in truth and doubts are dispelled.
Music.
Play it often.
Play it till you believe it.
And playing now is:
Today I am joining … Faith On Fire and Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Faith ‘N Friends .
I love your take on “play” here. I hadn’t thought of playing music, but you’re right often it reminds us of truth and brings us back to the heart of God. Visiting from FMF. Have a great weekend!
Tara, music does it for me every time 🙂
I love Stephen Curtis Chapman too. (He’s from Paducah, Kentucky, which isn’t too far from where I live!) Not much came to my mind when I saw the word “play,” but then I realized it’s because I’m not a very good play-er. I like to have fun and do things, but unless it’s board game or cards, I don’t PLAY well. Anyway, I appreciate your heart and this post, as always. Happy Friday, friend. xo
Kristin, I love this linkup because I can never tell where the one word will lead my thoughts. And I so love reading the thoughts of others as well. Friend, I look at your posts and photos, and all I think is this … your three are teaching you to play and play well!! You bless me so with all you share! xo
Aren’t you the clever one taking the word in an entirely different direction!
Clever? Not me. I truly had not “played” much at all this week other than music. Thankfully, I realized it or there would not have been a post at all, lol.
Love that you took the word in a different direction. Music is such a gift. I can’t carry a tune but I love me some great music. I’m in the 5 spot this week.
Your comment made me smile BIG! I said I played music. I didn’t say I can carry a great tune. But here’s the thing I have learned …. A miracle happens between my lips and God’s ears. It’s a beautiful solo by the time it gets there after all, our God does all transformations well 🙂
I like that you connected this word to music. It’s a real fit good to advice to sing the words until they live in our hearts and we believe their truth.
Repeat is the best way to start believing what I am singing. It may be days or weeks before I move on from a song. But faith grows each time I hit the repeat button!
Hi from your neighbor on FMF. Music is a wonderful way to embed God’s truths into our hearts and minds. Thank you for the reminder.
While I enjoy music, and have the lyrics of many songs memorized, I crave silence 90% of the time. My husband is the one who craves music (the louder the better). He used to play Steven Curtis Chapman’s ‘Wake the Neighbors’ as loud as our stereo system would play to get us (and our neighbors, the pastor of our church) ready for church! (p.s., you might want to add the word ‘never’ before the word ‘leave’ in your second paragraph 😉 ).
