Driving the familiar road, the music filled the car. Soft and comforting, the words hit me deeply and powerfully even though I have heard the song so many times …
“You made it all
Said, “let there be”
And there was
All that we see
The sound of Your voice
The works of Your hands
You do all things well
You do all things well
You do all things well.”(from the song You Do All Things Well as sung by Chris Tomlin)
Earlier in the morning, I had read the account of creation found in Genesis 1. Each of the first five days, after speaking the word and having it be, God saw that it was good.
It was only after creating man on the sixth day that we are told:
“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning – the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31, NIV)
Now God saw that what was created was “very good” and what made it very good was His Spirit now had infused man. The breath of life, God’s very breath, was now breathed inside of man. The lifeless was filled with life.
God in complete wisdom and omniscience gave the highest praise on this day of creation, the day He created man.
I believe that God does all things well and that all He does is good. And yet there have been times I have doubted if this meant He created me well. Perhaps you have as well.
“For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected …”
(1 Timothy 4:4, NIV)
The Scripture comes softly and the truth hits … if everything God created is good (and it is!) and each of us has been created by God (and we have been!), then we each are good. Indeed, very good.
I hit the button to replay the song and the words continue to come …
“Star creator
Wind breather
The strokes of Your beauty
Brushed through the clouds
Light from the heavens
Touching the groundImagination runs wild
And breathes the breath of life
Across the fields
Across the miles.”
Wind breather. Breathing the breath of life. Into me. Into you. Our value comes not from anything we have done but from the very One who has breathed life into us.
It is His breath in us which gives us worth or value. Eternal value.
It is good to return to the beginning. To Creation.
“The Lord merely spoke and the the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born … For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.” (Psalm 33: 6 & 9, NLT)
God has been creating since before time began and He continues to create and put His stamp of approval on each one of us.
And of this we can we certain:
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6, NIV)
Be confident of this –
He has created you.
And He does all things well!

Much appreciated, Sarah.
Joanne,
I love that verse in Timothy!!!
“For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected …â€
(1 Timothy 4:4, NIV)
I have greatly struggled with self-worth over the years and for some reason have been blind to the application of this scripture when it comes to people. Thanks for making this connection for me. I speak to teen girls and will use this verse to encourage them. Thanks.

Sherry, I too have always seen this verse applied to food and such. It was interesting to stop it right there. How I wish I had made this connection when I was a teen. May God use His truth greatly as you bring it to teenagers. Thank you for encouraging me today. I had written this post a few days ago and almost did not share it. Blessings!
Such a beautiful post, and I’m struck by Chris’s mention of God’s imagination — so important for all artistry, and He made us in His image.
It is absolutely amazing to think of God’s imagination and the depth of thought that went into all He created – including us.
LOVE this: “there have been times I have doubted if this meant He created me well”. I often struggle with this for so many reasons, and yet the truth is right there staring back at me. Thank you for this beautiful reminder 🙂
I think we all can struggle with this truth. We can believe He created everyone so well but ourselves. We need to remind one another of this often until it is firmly established in our thoughts. May you have a blessed 2017!
Joanne, I don’t know that I’ve heard that song before. Hmm. If so, it’s maybe been a while. Love that. I love it when songs speak. And they speak to me often! Thank you for sharing, Joanne. And, thanks for joining the fun at the #ChasingCommunity linkup launch! So glad to have you along for the ride. ((hug)) Happy New Year.
Hi Brenda – I am so glad to have discovered your linkup. It is always wonderful to make new friends and connections. It is amazing how a song can speak a truth deeply, especially when it is an old and familiar song bringing a fresh truth. May God bless your linkup and grow your community for His purposes!
The beginning of the year always makes me want to sift through Genesis 1 again… going back to the beginning. The very first Word in Genesis is closely linked with many other books of the Bible, with the significance of In the beginning, God… so uniquely appropriate leading us all to look at what all our beginnings should start with. And what I love about the start of Genesis is the echo of grace that resounds, “it is good”… all God’s handiwork is good.
Beautiful post, Joanne! Thanks for sharing this at the #GraceMoments Link UP.
Blessings,
Dawn
