Reading has always been a favorite pastime of mine. I love to read and if you have been around my blog at all, you have learned reviewing books brings me such delight.
Reviews and book launches have not only introduced me to new authors but established friendships which I cherish.
Not too long ago, I had the absolute delight to review the cookbook, Hungry Is A Mighty Fine Sauce by Shellie Rushing Tomlinson. I highly recommend the book as it is filled with stories and humor which will make you laugh.
Being a part of this book launch actually began years ago, in the day when internet Bible Studies were a novel idea and not the norm. God saw fit to cross the paths of a woman in Monroe, LA. and myself which began a journey, and a precious friendship, now lasting about fourteen or fifteen years. She introduced me to the newsletter, written by Shellie, whom I had never heard of, so that I could get a sampling of southern humor.
And I was hooked! All these years, Shellie’s newsletter still shows up in my inbox. She still makes me laugh with her stories. And she gives me food for thought as she holds out Jesus.
This past week, I made Shellie’s recipe for pot roast. I don’t share many recipes on my blog but this one …. this one is definitely worth sharing! It is easy and truly cooks itself in the crockpot, making it a foolproof meal. Before too long, the house smells delicious and comforting. I shared this meal as there was plenty to go around. It was the sharing we embraced as it brought us together in the middle of the week and not on the weekend, as is more typical.
Our tables are meant for invitation. For sharing. For conversations. They are to be safe places for opinions to be discussed and respected. Our tables, the places where memories are engraved in every corner of our hearts and minds for the days when we will need them the most.
So here is the recipe, shared with Shellie’s permission because she is truly that gracious.ĆĀ Invite someone to your table as you will be glad you did. Your guests will be even more grateful than you!
And if you are looking for a wonderful cookbook for yourself or for a Christmas gift, this one is it! Trust me.
“They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity – all they while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people.” (Acts 2:46-47, NLT)

So much is accomplished for the Kingdom of God sitting around a table, thanking God for delicious meals. Thanks for reviewing this cookbook, and for the attached reminder that sharing a meal is a very spiritual happening.
Sometimes we just need the reminder and a recipe to share a meal and have a spiritual happening š
I love this story Joanne! It’s a great encouragement to be more intentional about sharing a meal with friends and family. š Visiting today from #LMMLinkup
Thank you, Angela. The days can get so busy and hurried that we often think we don’t have time to prepare a full meal. This recipe makes a meal so simple to both cook and share. I need recipes like this one š
Thanks for linking, Joanne. I think my Mom might enjoy this cookbook.
Joanna, what a special cookbook. Thanks so much for sharing on the #LMMLinkup.
This looks like a yummy recipe! I just picked out my Christmas present (lol!) from my husband. It’s a pressure cooker and reviews told me I could make a roast from frozen to ready in 40 min! As soon as I get that baby I’m all in! Thanks, Joanne, for sharing!
Hugs,
Lori
I love cookbooks that have stories as well as recipes. š Thank you for linking up with LMM.
This book is rich with stories. My mom has read it just for the stories. Truth. She has enjoyed the stories from start to finish. Thank you for hosting and for stopping by!
