“If you love me, obey my commandments.” (John 14:15, NLT)
“The Lord does not give me rules, but He makes His standard very clear. If my relationship to Him is that of love, I will do what He says without hesitation. If I hesitate, it is because I love someone I have placed in competition with Him, namely myself. Jesus Christ will not force me to obey Him, but I must. And as soon as I obey Him, I fulfill my spiritual destiny. My personal life may be crowded with small, petty happenings, altogether insignificant. But if I obey Jesus Christ in the seemingly random circumstances of life, they become pinholes through which I see the face of God … When God’s redemption brings a human soul to the point of obedience, it always produces.”
(from My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers)
Today I am joining … Give Me Grace and Spiritual Sundays and Word of God Speak and Recommendation Saturday .
What a rich quote! The words from an old hymn come to mind for this Sunday morning: “Cast down every idol . . . wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.”
Trusting for grace to make some “pinholes” today! What a vivid word picture that is!
Oswald Chambers sure had a way of painting a word picture! My Utmost always gives me food for thought.
This reverberated through my spirit when I read it, ” if I obey Jesus Christ in the seemingly random circumstances of life, they become pinholes through which I see the face of God”. Our obedience is so key in seeing God like this!
It truly is, Elizabeth. I am so grateful for the smallest glimpse of Him as it is all we need to keep on hoping. Blessings!
Joanne. I love this. That quote is beautiful and the picture just perfect. My I see His face each day through the pinholes.
Oswald Chambers had a way with words which so gave us just that – a pinhole through which to see the bigger picture of God. So grateful for his writings. May you have a blessed week!
