It’s Friday which means I am joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Many of us writing on that same word.
Today’s prompt is … Journey.
A journey means going from one place to another and life constantly has us on one. Some days the ride is clear as we go to work, to school, the supermarket, the dentist. But there are always the days in which the journey is unknown. Hidden to us but fully seen by The One.
After a week of reading Hebrews 11, I am reminded that faith truly is a verb which demands action. Faith will call us out to journey to places we may not have gone on our own.
God has been moving me out of my comfort zone more and more. He’s like that you know But the thing is … it is the only way we truly come to discover that we can do nothing apart from Him. It is all in His strength and as He moves in His power.
Our journeys are the avenue by which one generation truly impacts the next generation.
Abraham impacted Isaac. Isaac impacted Jacob and Esau. Jacob impacted his twelve sons, especially Joseph. And each of us will impact those in our lives as well throughout our journey.
The word “journey” causes me to pray that my life, especially my faith in Christ, would have a lasting impact on my own family. Especially long after I am gone. It is then my life would have true meaning!
I want God to be able to write … “By faith, Joanne _________.”
The journey will make demands of us and some day we may feel like Abraham, needing to go “without knowing where we are going” (Hebrews 11:8).
It is on those days that we are to follow the example of Moses:
“He kept on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:27b, NLT)
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Faith ‘N Friends and #FreshMarketFriday .
What an amazing goal: “By faith, {my name}”
You’ve set me to wondering what would go after that sentence beginning? What have I done by faith in my life? What should I be aspiring to do?
Great pondering for the weekend coming up!
Michele, I cannot even express how setting that question before me on paper prompted me to think. Glad it did the same for you 🙂
That is so key, isn’t it? Knowing “that we can do nothing apart from Him. It is all in His strength and as He moves in His power.” Good stuff here. Thanks for writing it!
Thank you for stopping and encouraging me, Sylvia.
“to go without knowing where we are going”….yes. Faith.
Enjoyed this, Joanne. Your comment reminded me, I believe, of the reason you started your blog? So that your children would have an example of your faith and a memory of your writings. Or something like that 🙂 It has always stood out to me. What a legacy and treasure they have already in their mother who is a wonderful, Christian example. Then when your work here is finished, they can continue to read your thoughts that the Lord gave you as strength and encouragement to keep walking by faith. (May that day be 50 years away!!) Blessings. ♥
Nannette, your memory is excellent! That is exactly the reason I started writing. Your kind words are much appreciated!
What a beautiful goal, Joanne. Thank you for this insightful bit and the encouragement of that hope of what God will write about you : )
And He will write about you as well, Bethany 🙂
There are a couple of points you make today that stand out for me. First, you say “Our journeys are the avenue by which one generation truly impacts the next generation” We should never doubt that others are watching us as we make our way through our own life. It makes me remember again what a beautiful thing my dad showed me by living well his last eight months. I was watching and learning from him. Second, I pray at the end of my life God writes in my book, “By faith, Mary _________.†I love your words today. Thank you for letting God lead you to teach us.
Mary, I love the way you are sharing about your journey with your dad. May God use your testimony greatly in the days ahead in unexpected ways!
Glad you are in my journey. â¤ï¸
Thank you. And I truly feel the same way about you. I love how God crosses the paths of His children. xo
This was encouraging. That passage in Hebrews is always one of my favorites. What stood out to me about this post is the idea of just keep going. Just dont give up even if U don’t know where or how U will get there. Keep going toward Gods will anyway
Me too, Somer. May we always keep on going with the assurance that our God has gone before us.
