t’s Friday! I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Many of us writing on that same word.
Today’s prompt is … Lose.
One look at the word and it immediately came to my mind … my earring.
A few weeks ago, I lost one of my diamond earrings. I am not even sure of the monetary worth as their worth truly was in the sentiment.
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? and when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, “Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.” In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.” (Luke 15: 8-10, NLT)
Once I discovered my loss, I searched our home high and low. The bed was already made, so I carefully unmade it in the hopes it had fallen out during the night. I repeated this several times over the course of the day.
We looked under the bed, in the bathrooms, in the cushions of the couches, and anywhere I had been in the house over the course of the day. All to no avail.
To lose is defined as “to come to be without (something in one’s possession or care), through accident, theft, etc., so that there is little or no prospect of recovery.”
And there is little prospect, or hope, of my finding the earring at this point.
But my loss is teaching me a lesson. I am praying for the son of a dear friend who has lost his way in this life. He’s about the same age as my own son. My dear friend and I have journeyed many miles together as our sons grew up. There have been many prayers offered up for both boys as our hearts have melded into one with a desire for both, now men, to walk in the plans our God hs for each of them.
My loss has given me the slightest inkling of the joy which is experienced when one returns to God. I now know, the phone calls I would make to share my news if ever my earring was found. And our lives are of more worth than one earring to our God.
“Celebrate with me! …. Count on it – that ‘s the kind of party God’s angels throw every time one lost soul turns to God.” (The Message)
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Grace & Truth and Dance With Jesus and #FreshMarketFriday .
Thank you, this was thought provoking and a good read!
Grateful you stopped here today!
Joanne I do hope you find that earring. Bless your heart. I agree it’s the sentimental value. Love the verse and picture you shared.
Thanks, Debbie. I have sort of resigned myself that it is gone. But I keep on hoping!
Yes, we are precious to God. How blessed we are to be his. Thanks so much for this reminder. Blessings to you!
We need reminders now and then, don’t we? I know I needed it today. Blessings to you as well!
Hi Joanne, I pray your friend’s son find his way Home. I like how you connect the earing and the young man who needs prayers!
Have an awesome weekend
Blessings to you
Thank you for your prayers, Ifeoma. May we remember those who have lost their way. Blessings to you too!
Hi Joanne! Stopping by from #DanceWithJesus. Thank you for your insights and perspective. Beautiful. Blessings
that is such a great parable. so cool that a real life loss could push you to pray for a friend’s son. i love it:)
and i have known many who have given up on finding something of value and months later, when cleaning out an odd box, came across it, lying there in a hidden corner. sorry to hear of the loss of something sentimental. i always hate that!
Martha, God will use anything to move us to pray. For that I am grateful. And yes, it’s true. Things thought lost can often turn up. It’s all in His hands!
In the end, all that matters is that the lost come home. Sometimes losing something monetarily brings it home to us. Thanks for sharing and hope you get a wonderful surprise – both that the earring is found, and the boy comes to his Father.
Jerralea, you made such a good point – one is temporal. The other is eternal. Sure puts it all into the right perspective. Thank you!
Amazing how little every day things can remind us of the valuable life lessons we ought to learn. I hope your friend’s son is better now.
Happy weekend!
Lux, it is the little everyday things in life which have always best taught me. I think it the very reason I titled my blog, Days & Thoughts. As we ask Him to give us eyes to see, we see Him even in the mundane. Have a wonderful weekend!
A great reminder to not give up praying for those in our lives who need to experience the love of God! I’m reminded of when my diamond fell out of my wedding ring and how franticly I searched. Knowing God is always calling us to him and searching out ways to draw us in, I have to believe our prayers lifted up for others help in the leading. Thanks for sharing:) Crystal~
