Every once in a while our minds take a trip down memory lane, reviewing the highlights of years passed, thinking on where it all began. You remember the dreams you had starting out, the twists and turns as life took you on a journey through each bend in the road.
I found myself back in Matthew reading about Mary. She was a young woman, engaged to Joseph, when the angel paid her a visit. Mary, much like every young woman, dreamed of being a wife to Joseph. She may have anticipated their home and color scheme, the dinners she would prepare for the two of them, and the children she would one day birth. All noble dreams.
Yet God had a dream for her life which was larger than the life she envisioned for herself.
She conceived a child, the Son of God, and then married the man of her dreams. It was not the typical betrothal at all. She did become a mother; the mother of a family much larger than she could have thought possible.
Our dreams can carry us far but it is God’s dreams which take us farther than we ever could imagine –
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9, NLT)
Our feeble minds cannot even imagine the varied and powerful ways in which our God works in our lives. His plan is the one He implemented before the world even began. The dreams He has for our lives are founded in those very plans which began before time even was measured –
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10, NLT)
God’s Spirit, works in our transformed hearts, bringing life to our dreams, which are birthed in His will for our lives and engulfed in His grace.
As we go journey this earth, our dreams collide with His plan for our life. And when that occurs, we find our lives filled with purpose. Our eyes are opened to the truth that we cannot, and will not, ever be able to outdream our God.
What dream are you holding onto today? Will you trust Him with it? May you remember –
God wants to take you farther than you ever dreamed possible!

I loved how you framed “the works He had planned for us before the worlds began” as one in the same with His dreams for us! Beautiful!
I was inspired when you said, “As we go journey this earth, our dreams collide with His plan for our life. And when that occurs, we find our lives filled with purpose. Our eyes are opened to the truth that we cannot, and will not, ever be able to outdream our God.”

Jo, seeing your comment on my blog moved me to tears as I remember the many and lengthy conversations we shared about God’s Word. May we remember that our Father is always at work even when His activity is hidden from our eyes. In His time, His perfect time, He will reveal His work to us. Love you!
