“Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you by giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed.” (Psalm 37: 34, NLT)
For days now, the word has been running through my thoughts.
Providence.
It is a word we hear often, perhaps throwing it around a bit ourselves as well. But what it it? This is the question I have been raising for myself.
So I did some deep investigating and used the dictionary. Seems the dictionary is wiser than me at times (no shocking discovery there though!) and shed some light: “the foreseeing care and guidance of God over the creatures of the earth” (dictionary.com).
“The foreseeing care and guidance of God over the creatures of the earth”
This would include each one of us.
We cannot see ahead but our God can. Look again at the definition. As I continued to keep that definition in front of me for several days, I came to realize …
Providence means to see ahead of time and to make provision.
Providence is two-fold. Our God sees what lies ahead and therefore, is already making provision for each of our lives. We may not fully understand all it means but He knows and sees in full. His provision is with complete view of all our days and for our good.
Where are you headed? God has already been there. He is waiting for you and has made full provision in that very place – according to His purposes.
As we put our hope in our Lord, as we travel steadily on His path, He will fulfill His plan and purposes for our lives. We will see Him destroy the wickedness which threatens our lives. We will see Him raise up His banner of salvation and justice and righteousness.
Put your hope in the Lord.
Travel steadily along His path,
and He will honor you.
