It’s hard to know what will come out of the mouth of a three year old on any given day. One can never be too sure of the ideas which swirl around in their little creative heads.
Last week, Jocelyn took to responding to me in a different manner. No matter what I asked or said, her response was …
“OK, my little Mimi daughter, ” or
“OK, my precious little Mimi daughter.”
Now I am not sure it sounded endearing as it might read. The tone of voice seemed to flash me back to Disney movies and the likes of Cruella De Vil or Rapunzel’s mother. But it made for a funny morning none the less. I took to Facebook so her mother could know of my humorous morning and wrote:
Hey- No matter what I say to Jocelyn today, her response is … “OK, my little Mimi daughter.” I am suddenly in the throes of an identity crisis, #whoamI?? LOL. ‪
And then is when it hit me …
It truly does not take much for us to question ourselves. In this world, which can label us with so many titles, we can easily find ourselves second guessing our identity, or our purpose each day. We need to remember who we are:
But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel:
“fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.’
(Isaiah 43:1, NKJV)
Right there in one verse, we have our identity sealed up. He calls us each by our name. He claims each of us as His own. He speaks with a loving voice, pursuing us and embracing us to His side. And so today I pray,
Dear Lord, may my grandchildren come to learn and embrace their identity in You from a young age. May they be confident that You have called them by their name for purposes which will bring You honor. May they hear Your voice calling to them above every other voice which would seek to label them or rob them of their God-given identity. May they always hear You calling them – “Beloved. Redeemed. Adopted. Accepted. And most of all, MINE.” In Your Name I pray, Amen.
Today I am joining … Playdates With God and Sharing His Beauty and #SmallWonder and Inspire Me Monday .
Wonderful post and fabulous prayer, Joanne. Thank you. Blessings to you and yours!
Ha. Such fun times with your little ones, Joanne! 🙂 Knowing who we are is an evolving journey, yes? Yes, thankful that we are always God’s, no matter what else!
Lisa, it truly is an evolving journey! And this little one brings me the best reminders 🙂
Isn’t it amazing the things that come to our minds and the lessons we learn from our littles? So happy to receive this reminder that I am His.
Michele, it is truly amazing. Here I thought the purpose was to provide loving & safe daycare. Yet I am the one to benefit in more ways than she!!!
so sweet, I love those little ones! I love that! My Little Mimi daughter.. what creativity comes from that little one’s mouth..! But yes, God knows your true name name! May you be blessed by your grandchildren. What a precious time! Visiting from #smallwonder
Reminds me of the children’s book, The Runaway Bunny, in the end, the mother bunny says, “you are my little bunny.” There’s no escaping God’s claim on us!
Amen, Kelly, Amen!
Oh, Joanne, I love this! It connects with some of my reflection on names recently. The prayer is very dear and precious to my heart. Thanks so much!
🙂 Beautiful story and beautiful illustration. I am so glad I am HIS (because if I were my own person, I’d make a real mess of me!).
Anita, if that is not the truth! Me too!!!!
