I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word. For the month of October, I am going to try to incorporate the word prompts into my series, 31 Questions Jesus Asked.
Today’s prompt is …. JOY.
Joy has been defined as “the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying“.
Jesus and the disciples had become a band of brothers, closely knit from being together very often all day long for days on end. Jesus knowing the Cross was ahead of Him, and they would experience sadness and confusion, offers insight to the coming days …
- His Kingdom would not happen the way in which they thought it would
- adversity would come
- the world would be rejoicing while they would experience sadness
They began to talk among themselves, not understanding all that He was disclosing to them. And Jesus asks them …
“Are you asking yourselves what I meant?” (John 16:19, NLT)
Jesus saw into their hearts and mind, understanding the turmoil they were in. He realized their desperation to understand all that He was saying.
There are days, we cannot comprehend how life will make sense. The questions mull around in our minds, again and again, with evasive answers. It is then we have this assurance:
“You will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy.”
(John 16:20, NLT)
“I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy.
Yes, your joy will overflow!” (John 15:11, NLT)
This is Day 23 of 31 Questions Jesus Asked. You can find the entire series here.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Fellowship Friday and Grace & Truth .
Great reminder that even when life is hard to understand we can find joy in Christ, and I like your 31 Days topic- I’ll have to look at some more of your posts. Glad I found you today through FMF.
I am so glad you like my topic. I am learning much as I go deeper into the meaning of these questions. Thank you for stopping & sharing your thoughts.
That sensation of grief turned to joy is such a beautiful one. I’ve felt it before, and it’s also just such a wonderful thing to think on when I see that line in Scripture.
It’s so true, Amy. When He turns our sadness to joy it is such an overwhelming & abundant feeling. Blessings!
I chose BLESSINGS as my word for 2015. Trials and tribulations have come strong this year but JOY still remains in the promises in the WORD!
I am so grateful that despite trials, you have found joy in God’s promises. May He turn things around for you. Blessings!
if we listen to what Jesus has to say, indeed we will find joy. I am a FMF neighbour
So grateful to meet a neighbor from FMF. May you continually be filled with His joy!

If this “assurance” wasn’t so indelibly printed on the table of my heart from His Word, I don’t think I’d be able to endure grief. Thank the Lord for His Word: The …..”lamp unto our feet and the light onto our pathway!” — Our “schoolmaster”! — “Joy cometh in the morning”!!
May His anointing continue to flood your heart, mind and soul, — your very being — Joanne!
Angela, you are a living testimony of how one finds strength in the Lord. Grateful He writes on our hearts & minds so that in those times, we can draw upon what we know to be true. I am so grateful for your encouragement, your love & your example. XO
