I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.
Today the word prompt is … Favorite.
As soon as I saw the word prompt, I could hear her words in my head, “When you’re the only one here, you are my favorite.”
My Gram. An Italian immigrant, who came to the U.S. at the age of sixteen. Having never met anyone here in person, she came to stay with a family of a friend of her parents. She could not read nor write and was dependent on any of us who would help her.
She was a godly woman, who had a storehouse of Scripture memorized, kind, gentle and very wise. There were seven of us grandchildren and we all wanted to be her “favorite”. We often asked her who was her favorite, and she always responded, “When you’re the only one here, you are my favorite.”
Favorite, as defined by the NLT Study Bible dictionary, is “a person specially loved, trusted, or provided with favors.”
This morning I am reminded that my God also plays no favorites. Each one of us gets to be a favorite of His …
- “…. for God has no favorites.” (Galatians 2:6)
- “… you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites.” (Ephesians 6:9)
- “For God has no favorites.” (Colossians 3:25)
Each one of these statements, written by Paul, who knew to the depths of his being that he was loved by God. He knew he was a man specially loved, trusted, and provided with favor by His God.
When I am alone with God, I am His favorite.
And so are you!
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Fellowship Friday and Grace & Truth .
We are all His favorite, for sure! Thanks for sharing.
I love the thought that I – WE – are ALL God’s favorite!!!
What a precious memory to savor!
A good reminder of truth to enter the weekend. Thank you, Joanne.
What a fascinating story you have of your grandmother – I’d love to hear more about her adventures upon arriving in this foreign land! Wow. And what a special person she sounds like. What good memories for you. Thanks for sharing on Grace and Truth today!
Gram was surely a brave young woman. Only now as an adult am I better able to understand and appreciate all that it took for her to make a life here.
Beautiful, Joanne. I can’t help but think us spending that alone time with Him has to be one of His most favorite things too. So glad that we are His. Blessings, sweet friend.
Tiffany, I think you are right. The time we spend with Him is one of His favorite things as well, further showing how deeply He loves each one of us.
Thank you for your posting on “favorite”. Touched my heart in a special way. What a beautiful memory you have.
Thank you, Mare. Gram always said it with a twinkle in her eye.
What a great post – love focusing on one word and seeing how much God can use it in my life! …and for me to use it for others! 🙂
Lovely! I remember writing about this too. “God is Not Fair”. I also claimed that I am His favorite. We all are. 😀
Thank you for stopping here! I enjoyed your post as well. It is true – we may not be able to understand the ways in which God deals with the just & the unjust. His ways are not our ways. But one day, He will right every wrong & that is our hope. Blessings!
