I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.
Today the word prompt is … World.
I had been thinking about the words “global community” for quite a few days. The definition on a piece of paper still in front of me reads:
“the people or nations of the world, considered as being closely connected by modern telecommunications and as being economically socially and politically interdependent.” (dictionary.com)
Thanks to technology and social media, the world has truly become smaller. It is easier to connect with people, never seen face to face, and form a bond which is real and lasting. I immediately think of The Lulu Tree which has made its way into my heart and life –
These women and their children matter to me and are prayed for regularly. Their needs are simple yet no different than mine here. They, too, need a Savior, a safe place to live and raise their children, food, an education, a job and clean water. As I sit here, I find myself humming the familiar children’s song –
“Jesus loves the little children,
All the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in His sight.
Jesus loves the little children of the world.”
Funny that God would bring me back, now as an adult, to the simple truth learned as a child in Sunday school. It truly all comes back to the beginning of all I learned then, even to the very first Scripture verse I was taught to memorize:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16, NKJV)
God was in the ministry of ‘global community’ long before technology was ever in use. God has loved and cared for this world long before He even created it all. This world matters to Him and the lengths He will go to bring His people together will stretch clear across this world.
His people.
His world.
*** Five minutes is up. You may find more information on The Lulu Tree and its ministry here .
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Dance With Jesus and Fellowship Friday and Grace & Truth .
Beautiful piece. I like that: “God was in the ministry of ‘global community’ long before technology was ever in use.” Technology can be helpful, but loving people begins in the heart.
Lily, I agree. If it is not in our hearts, it will not come out through technology. May He deposit His love into our hearts!
Beautiful words, Joanne! I also love the Lulu Tree and all that is happening to build into these women. Thank you for sharing this ministry. Blessings!
It continues to amaze me, Mary, how our God is connecting His people worlds apart through the use of technology. May we use social media wisely & for His glory. Blessings!
Hi Joanne – that verse! I’ve been thinking along those lines, lately, as well. Thank you for the reminder that we are not alone in our own little worlds, that there are places and people we can work with, alongside, and through to make the whole world a better place. Have a wonderful weekend.
Janet, I think at times we can forget the simplicity of the powerful message our Lord brought into this world. Our impact can be far reaching as we let Him direct our steps. Have a wonderful weekend as well 🙂
I am amazed at all the songs that share about God’s love for all His people in the world. 🙂 And Jesus Loves the Little Children . . . I haven’t thought about the beauty in those words in ages. He LOVES all His children, the world-over. It truly is an amazing thought that God loved this world, and the people who would occupy it, before it was ever created. Beyond my comprehension!
Thanks for reminding me to expand my thinking about God’s amazing, perfect love. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my blog, too!
Jeanne, I was amazed at how the one word prompt brought back to mind the simplicity of the message of the gospel. And yes, it was truly beyond my comprehension as I thought about it. Five minutes was not enough time 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!
Perfect way to shine your light on world missions. It’s nice we are all becoming more in tune to the needs of others near and far. Thanks Joanne.
May our hearts continue to be moved to think about others. Have a wonderful weekend!
You are such a blessing sister. XO
And so are you in more ways than you know!
Yes! “God was in the ministry of ‘global community’ long before technology was ever in use. ” I loved your post today, Joanne. It struck a chord with me. That’s why I’ve lived almost all of my adult life overseas. 🙂 May the Lord bless the Lulu tree ministry!
Thank you for your words of blessing for The Lulu Tree, Betsy. May God continue to use you & your family!
Hi, Joanne! I’m happy to be stopping by here from last week’s Grace and Truth linkup. I love this line – “God was in the ministry of ‘global community’ long before technology was ever in use.” How true! As a grown MK, this is something close to my heart. Now I’m wishing I would have joined in on FMF this week! 🙂
