This is one of those verses we can so spout with the best of them, or at least I can. And then there are those times where, rather than saying it verbatim, I take the time to look at it, from a different angle ever so slowly.
This past week, my eyes were opened to this simple fact – Paul wrote in the present tense. How have I so missed this?
He didn’t say it worked or perhaps it will one day work. It is in the present tense, so it is a continuing and ongoing action by our God.
What does that mean for us?
It means whatever is occurring in each of our lives – today, at this moment – our God is orchestrating it all. He is blending these occurrences into the fabric of our lives to accomplish His will IN our lives.
George Mueller puts it … “In a thousand trials, it is not just 500 of them that work “for the good” of the believer, but 999 + 1.”
May we each hold onto this promise –
today, presently –
He is working all things out for our good.
Today I am joining … Testimony Tuesday and Unite and True Story and RaRa Linkup and Intentional Tuesday .
Great reminder to start my day!
Visiting from RaRaLinkup
May you have a great day, Emily!
I love how God taught you something new with His word because then you taught me. I have not looked at scripture from the viewpoint of tense because I always assumed it had already happened. Now I will be looking more closely. Blessings on your week.
Mary, what is amazing is that our being called is in the past tense but He is working in the present tense 🙂
Joanne: I needed this so very much today. God is so good……after 66 + years of serving and loving Him, I still choke up at His goodness and faithfulness to me.
Angela, how precious is your comment to me. May I continue to choke up at His goodness & faithfulness to me ALL of my days! With much love to you this morning!
Joanne, I love how God reveals new things in familiar passages. “today, presently –
He is working all things out for our good.” Amen! Praise to our good God! Thank you, Joanne, for sharing your heart at #IntentionalTuesday on Intentionally Pursuing. : )
Thank you, Crystal, for your encouragement each week. And yes! He is working all things out for our good – even those things which may not seem good. Blessings!
God is at work in our lives and His desire is only for our good. We pray, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, but are we actually desiring His Will. What if it contains pain, suffering and loss? I will praise Him in ALL things as I go through even tough times. No I am not going through tough times personally, some of my family is, but really I am praising the Lord that He is working out his good will for me and our family. Are there questions, health wise? Yes there is that too, but God is faithful. Thank you for sharing your lovely post with us here at Tell me a Story
Hazel, I am so glad that I read this today. Although I am late to respond, I was right on time to read your words 🙂 Praying that our God would work His will out in your family & mine. Joining you in praising Him for His continued faithfulness. May you have a very happy 4th!
