My Gram’s house was always open to us kids. She enjoyed having us around even though she was hindered by her lack of understanding the English language.
Her kind, gentle, and godly ways made us seek her affirmation. We often would ask her, “Who is your favorite?” She would laugh, as she made it seem like she was truly thinking about it. We not only knew better, we knew what the answer would be ….
“You are my favorite one when you are the only one here.”
Now that I am adult, I fondly look back on these interactions. Funny how this answer somehow satisfied the need to be loved and acknowledged by her. There were times, I was the only one with her. Perhaps it was then, I felt special, like her favorite. But even when the grandchildren were all present, we knew she loved each one of us.
As I think about Gram’s love for me, I am reminded of the love of God towards me …
- “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love, I have drawn you to myself.” (Jeremiah 31:3,NLT)
- “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease.” (Lamentations 3:22, NLT)
- “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were yet sinners.” (Romans 5:8, NLT)
- “We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.”
(1 John 4:16, NLT)
God loves each one of us as if we were the only ones, His favorite. And yet, at the very same time, we are all loved equally. Today I pray …
“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is to great to understand fully.” (Ephesians 3:18-19a, NLT)
It is vitally important to know and understand God’s love for each of us. For …
“Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” (Ephesians 3:19b, NLT)
As we come to God, calling out to Him in prayer, we can rest assured we have His complete attention. He desires time with us, one on one. Alone with Him, we are His favorite.
May we grow in our understanding of God’s love for us.
For it is His love which will complete us.
His love brings fullness of life & power.

What a beautiful thought, to be His favorite :). Thank you for this truth and smile today. I love the Tigger picture!
I loved the Tigger picture when I saw it. How precious for us each to know, to the depths of our soul, how deeply we are loved by our God & that we are His favorite.
As if we were the only one He had to love….oh yes! Beautiful thoughts on your grandmother and our wonderful Savior. Blessings!
Nannette, I know you are a favorite of His as you so make us all smile & feel loved. I am always amazed at how memories continue to teach us & draw us to Him even years after our loved one passes. Gram is still teaching me for which I will always be grateful. Blessings, friend!
