I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. We all write on the same word.
Today’s word is ….
I love commercials, especially a good one. AT & T had an ad campaign which said, “bigger is better”. A man would ask a small group of kids a question which would make a comparison between two things, one which was bigger. And of course, we all always do think, “bigger is better.”
But not always true.
Elijah, in fleeing for his life, has an encounter with God. The Lord tells him to go out on the mountain and stand there. As he was standing there, Elijah experienced a windstorm which was so terrible that the rocks were torn loose. But the Lord was not in the wind.
He then experienced an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake either.
After the earthquake, he experienced a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire.
After the fire, there was the sound of a gentle whisper.
And Elijah found the Lord. (You can read the entire story in 1 Kings Chapter 19)
A gentle whisper. So small it was heard only by Elijah. Whisper – – to speak softly with little or no vibration of the vocal cords. Yet it can be heard by our ears.
A whispered word is special, holding significance as it is meant for an audience of one.
The Lord whispers to each of us. To me. To you. So softly it is meant for no one but ourselves.
His message, whispered ….
“I love you!”
“You are mine!”
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Everyday Jesus and Friendship Fri. and Faith Filled Fri. and Fellowship Fri. and Essential Fri. .
Awesome! We had the same guideline today! A whispered word IS special. So good!
I saw that this morning, Nannette as I read your post. Love when I see others on the same verse as it brings such confirmation. Blessings!
Yes! To the soul-inscribed words of a whisper. I didn’t think of this story. Grateful for reminder Joanne!
I so love this story as it brings me such comfort to remember God speaks loud messages in quiet ways. And we never forget them!
I’ve always loved the story of Elijah and whisper of God. It is so personal, so intimate. I love how you noted that God’s whisper was for Elijah alone. I had never thought of it in that way. Beautiful. Stopping by from FMF. Blessings to you!
This is one of my favorite stories in Scripture. It comforts me to know God speaks loudly in a whisper π May we bend close to hear! Grateful you stopped & shared, Leah.
So many times I wish God would shout out the answer to situations I find myself in, but it is usually in my quiet time with him while studying his Word that he quietly speaks to me. I loved your post…It is so good to be reminded of this. Stopping by from Essential Thing Linkup. Have a great weekend!
We so long for the shout. He loves to whisper. May we press in close & hear Him! And you are right – it is most often in our quiet times & in and through His Word. Grateful you stopped here & shared with me. May you have a wonderful weekend!
What a lovely post! Especially for having written it in just 5 minutes. (I’m not that brave, lol) Anyways, you’re right–quiet is so important. I’ve been better at getting rid of some of the noise, but it’s so hard to do sometimes! Thanks for the reminder to be still and listen, and thanks for linking up at Fellowship Fridays!!
It is most difficult to find quiet some days. The reminder was for me as well π You should try the 5 minute linkup. It is amazing what can come to mind in just 5 minutes! I very much enjoyed linking up at Fellowship Fridays. Have a great week!
This is fantastic, Joanne. Our world DOES scream bigger is better… but sometimes the most powerful moments are soft and gentle– from an awesome and powerful God. Thanks so much for joining us over at #EverydayJesus.
Thank you, Sharita. Grateful He speaks gently to me. I have enjoyed joining #EverydayJesus each week! See you tomorrow π
