{{Today is Friday!!! It is the day I link with Lisa Jo Baker for Five Minute Friday. Here is how it works…. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. We all write on the same word.})
And today the word is …. Lost.
My dad has always enjoyed a car ride. Now retired, he still does. The open road calls him to drive and enjoy, often without a destination in mind.
Before they leave, Mom will say, “We’re going out for a bit.”
Where are you going?”, I will ask.
The reply, every single time, “Wherever the wheels take us.”
“Get something good!”, I say back. Every single time.
For years, Dad drove a truck, making deliveries. Being new to the state of Massachusetts, he would often got lost.
During his ride, he always made sure to get something good – a sandwich, an ice cream, bakery goods, a loaf of crusty bread and his favorite, apple turnovers. Oftentimes, he would bring something home for us all.
They still get something good whenever they go for a ride.
Dad never felt “lost” as he considered wherever he went as part of his journey. He always says as long as he keeps the ocean on his left side, he can always find his way home.
Perhaps it’s true of life too – we never are “lost”. Everything is meant to be a part of our journey making up our story. We bring back “something good” from each struggle, challenge, joy and experience to be taken in and digested when we get home.
Much the way Dad has kept the ocean to his left and made it home, I have One by my side to guide me and bring me safely home.
Every. Single. Time.
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8, NLT)
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Fri. and Friendship Fri. and Essential Fri. and Fri. Flash Blog and Fellowship Fri. .
Stopping in from FMF and I LOVED this! I loved “everything is meant to be part of our journey”. This is something I try to remind myself when something seemingly goes wrong – God can use this ugly thing to help someone else, so I need to accept it, learn from it, and definitely lean on Him. Great post!
I needed the reminder myself 🙂 The various parts of the journey are equally as important as arriving at our destination. My problem is I ask to often … “Are we there yet?” Grateful you visited!
” we are never lost everything is meant to be part of our journey” I love this its so so true
All the parts make up the whole. Something I so needed to be reminded of this morning. Glad you stopped here today!
I enjoyed your post so much. Thank you for sharing! We are in the midst of a long adoption journey and your words that “everything is meant to be a part of our journey making up our story” is something I constantly need to remember. Equally important is the reflection that results in the ““something good†from each struggle, challenge, joy and experience to be taken in” Thanks for the encouraging words!!
Praying that God uses every part of your journey for His glory!
This was so enjoyable! I appreciate the Psalm you tied in beautifully at the end too. Wonderful words in five minutes! Keep doing what you’re doing. You are blessing others as you follow God’s leading. So glad I stopped over today! Bless you!
I am always grateful for your comments, Julie. Thank you!
Such a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing!
I have such a terrible sense of direction, that I envy those who can just jump in the car and drive expecting to make it back home. 😉 I am thankful for my Lord who makes sure I am never truly lost. Blessings and have a wonderful weekend!
While most times I know where I am going, I am horrible at giving directions. I use landmarks and never know street names. Makes for a confusing ride for sure 🙂 Glad you shared here!
Joanne, this just made me smile. I’m one to get lost just about any time I leave the house. It’s kindof a joke in my home. But oh I’ve had some adventures and stories to tell when I make my way back home. And there were obviously seasons when I was lost in a different kind of way but I now know those seasons were all part of the journey of leading me into a relationship with Him. Great post on this prompt word today. Happy Friday. xoox
Beth, the joke here is how horrible I am at giving directions. My family always wonders how I get anywhere! I am so grateful our God takes charge of our journey! Have a wonderful weekend!
Joanne,
I don’t always get to participate in FMF, but this one was a good one to do. Mine is VERY different from yours though. 🙂 That’s what I like about FMF. The variety!
Loved your story about your dad! So much!
Heather, I had to go visit your post before responding 🙂 It is true –> the beauty of FMF is how one word can take us all in different directions. Yet every one is such a blessings. Grateful you stopped here!
