Guiding children through puberty can be awkward for both parents and kids alike. I recently had the opportunity to read Growing Up God’s Way for Boys
by Dr. Chris Richards and Dr. Liz Jones.
Growing Up God’s Way is a colorful and well written book which actually comes in two separate versions – one for boys and one for girls. It has been written for the purpose of giving children a succinct and godly explanation of puberty, helping to both prepare them and answer questions they may have.
There are accurate illustrations to further explain body parts, cycles and changes which will occur in the body during puberty. The book covers the following topics:
- an introduction to puberty
- marriage
- puberty and how it starts
- bodily changes
- physical intimacy
- changes in the way you think
- going out and beyond
- preparing for the future
This is an easy and comfortable read for parents and children to do together. It can help ease parents into this topic, making communication less awkward, more natural and open. The book is centered on honoring oneself before God and making wise, godly choices regarding sexuality.
This is a wonderful resource for parents and children entering the stage of puberty.
