Sophia came bounding up the steps with excitement leaving her mother on the patio to handle a phone call. She seemed to bounce into the house as she announced to me,
“Mimi, I am so excited!”
Me, going back to my school days, commented (probably more excited than her at the thought of days off), “I would be too. Tomorrow is your last day of school and then summer!!!”
She looked at me as if I were crazy and responded, “Yeah that too. But Friday is soon and I get to come here and be with you!!!
Can I just say I could have cried right then and there? Can I tell you I have not been able to stop thinking about this?
This little girl did not care about the end of school, finishing kindergarten, going to Monkey Joe’s with all her classmates to celebrate or the summer ahead. None of these things, exciting as they were to her, excited her as much as being with me.
And that is got me to thinking ….
Do I approach spending time with God – with that same sense of excitement and anticipation?
A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else!Â
(Psalm 84:10, NLT)
The psalmist approached God, similar to Sophia, with excitement. He knew the very place he would rather spend his day. He viewed being in God’s Presence, even as a gatekeeper in the temple as much better than being anywhere else.
And so today I pray:
“Lord, Your Word tells me there is no better place to be than in Your Presence. Increase my desire to spend time with You. Open my eyes to see more of You in the daily. Help me to carve out time to sit and meditate on the truths You desire to share with me.
For the Lord God is our sun and shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you. (Psalm 84:11-12, NLT)
Help me to trust You more today than yesterday. Amen.”

The same thing God has been showing me… The joy of little children. Thank you for sharing the sweet story of Sophia, Joanne! She is a great blessing!
Children truly do bring much joy, Helen. Thank you for reading! I enjoy seeing pictures of your children as well, who are just beautiful by the way! Blessings!
This is adorable! And what a great analogy for how we view our time with God. After living with them last year, Cohen often asks me on the phone, “YaYa, when you coming back? I want you come back!” I’m ready to get in the car and do just that every time!
I bet you are, YaYa! Just their voices can wrap themselves around our hearts & give a tug. Hopefully you get much time with yours! You bless me so much, Holly!
A great reminder that we should be excited to be meeting with the King of Kings.
It sure spoke to my heart deeply.
Love this and your sweet girl! Thank you for this beautifully written reminder. Great post!
What a heart warming post! Someone once told me that grandparents aren’t necessary in a child’s life…I don’t believe that for a moment!
I do not believe it either, Elizabeth. Mine are so precious to me. May we both protect & invest into the trust we have been given. Blessings upon your family!
What wonderful words to hear! How that must bless you to know you are such a blessing to your granddaughter.
Laura, both of my granddaughters can reduce me to tears in an instant. The blessing they are to me cannot be measured. So glad to join you today 🙂
Simply precious! And a gentle reminder to us all to approach time with God with excitement. <3
Thank you, Beth. May we approach Him with excitement & an anticipation that He will thrill our souls with His Words.
Hi Beth and so I so love the Psalms 84:11 verse. Thank you for sharing, for relating thoughts both old and new!
Thank you for this sweet reminder of the gift we have in being able to be in God’s very presence. Hopping over from the Grace Writers Link-Up!
