Christmas – Probably the one time of the year well known for gift giving. Much time and effort will be put forth as we all participate in giving and receiving gifts. There can be a number of reasons we give a gift.
I saw this video the other day and it really got me to thinking……
What if we gave gifts for no other reason than to solely bless the recipient? In other words, what if it was not about exchanging gifts but just giving a gift?
What would it feel like?
Would it accomplish something that a gift giving does not accomplish on a regular basis?
If we gave a gift without expecting anything to be given back to us. No expectations of receiving anything.
Perhaps it would look like this…..

Luke 6:38 tells us:
- Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (NIV)
- Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full – pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. (NLT)
- Give away your life, you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back – given back with bonus and blessing. Giving not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity. (MSG)
“Generosity begets generosity.”
May that be said of each of our lives this Christmas.
Let’s beget generosity!

Thank you, Janis! I am glad that you liked it & shared the video.
Challenging thoughts. I used to look forward to Christmas most because of the gifts I would receive but now I have kids I don’t get so much and giving presents to them is more important to me. Unconditional generosity is very counter-intuitive. We all too often want recognition, thanks, accolade…
Thanks for sharing at Essential Fridays.

It is so true, Mel. Having children & now granddaughters, has definitely changed my perspective on gifts. Also realizing how many are in alone this time of year has created a desire in me to open my home more as well. May you have a most blessed Christmas!
